Hello all

I started doing the timing belt on my V6 this morning and when it came to removing the aux belt tensioner, I discovered that some halfwit has rounded the bottom torx bolt.

I have tried hitting the correct sized socket on but I can't get any purchase to both hold the socket in place and get a hit with the hammer.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this out?

Are there extractors?

I can't get it moving with either a smaller hex socket or ring spanner.

I can't upload a picture but it's been properly butchered by some fool.

What size torx is it meant to be ?
that set may not be small enough  :-\

could try some heat (in case someone put masses of threadlock on)  ::)
then any socket you can get hammered on tight
good luck  ;)

Its a No 14 torx socket that fits the top bolt, I will try and get a set of extractors as mine don't go small enough.

Bloody nuisance, could have had the job done and dusted by now.

Ring spanner. Also you're pulling it UP from the front of the engine so will be lifting against the weight of the engine, so no worries on leverage.

Can't remember if you need to shift the alternator to remove the bolt... May help access shifting it :y

None of my ring spanners shifted it but I think getting t he alternator out of the way may help. What really gets in the wat are the 2 steel pipes running along the engine.

Do you have a welder? you could tack a nut on or a bit of bar and the heat will also help if free.

I think the bolt head might be made from Weetabix...…..the idiot that rounded it definitely had his Weetabix as the bloody thing is well stuck! :-)

Ordered the Irwins as well as the additional set so hopefully they will arrive at some point in the week and I can crack on!

Alternator out, smack an E12 onto it and a breaker bar.

Or hacksaw it off and unwind the rest once the tensioner is  off ;)
