Italian ?
Yes indeed. I've looked it up and it cost £5600 in '73'
Citroen SM £5342
Triumph Stag £2570
Daimler Double Six £3765
So, an expensive car back in the day.

Maserati, Iso, Lambo, Lancia, or a prancing horse ?

Maserati Ghibli

Maserati Ghibli

According to the calculator £5600 in 1973 is worth £59876 today.
-
Ghia?
-
One of these (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombardi_Grand_Prix) :-\
Scrub that. It wouldn't have cost £5600.... Still, a nice little car though! :y
-
No and no.
Come on chaps.......how hard can it be?
-
Innocenti A40? ;D

Put us out of our misery, please!

Put us out of our misery, please!
3.2 litre V6 like a Honda NSX........but only pushing out 165 BHP.
115-118 MPH ........zero to sixty 10 seconds. So not exactly a ball of fire by the standards of 2020.
Does that help?
-
Some type of Fiat / Lancia / Ferrari/ Alfa.............they all did V6,s.
-

3.2V6. Must be the Fiat 130. Cant see that being £5,600 though :-\

It was a Fiat 130 coupe. It cost £5600 in 1973. The saloon cost about £3850 (still more than a Daimler Double Six. .......and the coupe is a looker. :y

If you think that's a looker I'd hate to see the state of the women you chase! :P ;D

£5600 in '73 and in '84/'85 I was offered one for £100 :o It was black with an eye searingly bright orange interior.Turned it down as I didn't fancy a left hooker.

A good example can fetch £45000 today...... :y
Never mind Mr Baza. :D

I saw one on the telly the other month .... Salvage Hunters. They paid something like £6/7k & then spent £30+k on a rebuild - it was a rotbox. Sold it it for £40k

I think £5600 could buy a reasonable house in '73' :y
-
I've only ever made a profit on two cars out of all the ones I've ever owned. The first was a '64 FB Victor which I paid £3 for and sold about a month later for £40 and the second was a Mini that me and a mate chucked £20 each at to buy from his ex-wife and sold that 6 weeks later for £100,so a £30 profit for each of us.

My parents paid less than half that for their 3 bed semi a couple years before hand.

Like any town/city there are posh areas & not so push areas ;)
-
... or not so posh ... ::)
-
Mercedes 770k ?? :D :D ;)
Hardly Italian ;D
Well, no, but I was getting desperate in thinking what it could be!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Always liked the look of those big Fiats , looked like a classic right from the launch there was one local to us back around 1979 always admired it when I drove past in my 1976 Cortina 2000E estate .
-
Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder so they say.... :-\

I have to agree, for my money the Granada coupe is a better looking car, then again few cars made in the 1970's butter my parsnips. Those that do tend to be hangovers from the 1960's.

Yes....I like the look of the 130 coupe. I think Fiat was punching above it's weight by trying to knock them out for £5600 a pop when a brand new XJ6 or Stag could be had for half the price.
...but what do I know. :-X

Even in 3 litre Ghia trim the Granada coupe was only half the price of the 130 coupe.
It did have a touch of the 'lairy Esssex boy done good' about it though.
The 130 had class.......the Granny was just crass. ;)
.
-
Surely the Morris Marina 1800TC Coupe was the best looking and best buy of the era? :y
-
Mercedes 770k ?? :D :D ;)
Hardly Italian ;D

Never mind Lizzie......I'm sure we are all willing to make allowances for a mere girlie..... ;) :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Had two Granadas , I had a 3 litre Ghia in Jupiter red metallic & SWMBO had a 3litre GL in Roman bronze metallic , both really nice cars , my mate had a coupe in Diamond white looked like the Sweeney was around my house when all parked in the driveway.
-
I'm a sucker for old fords, but that's probably due to my history.
From pics of my dad rallying MK1/2 escorts to spending good chunks of my childhood being driven round in a Sierra XR4i, they hold a lot of fond memories. 8)
-
.... 3litre GL in Roman bronze metallic ....
My MKIII was in Roman bronze .... the colour disguised the rust extremely well! :y
And I caught a glimpse of a MKI Escort the other day in the same colour! :)

Did I read that a MK1 RS1600 ( or twin cam) Escort went for £70,000 recently?
-
The price of nostalgie ! ::)

Me too, i fell out of love with big Fords when they brought out that abomination that was the Scorpio. :o I had three Grannies of MKs 1,2and 3. loved em all.
-
Likewise, except the Mk1 ;) Dad bought a very late '99S boggle eyed pig, aka 2.3 16v Ultima estate in metallic black, actually looked ok with smoked headlights :D
He got rid when the heater matrix blew all over his leg on the A11. It must have really pissed him off because he replaced it. With an '03 Scenic ;D
-
Shame really, by all accounts a good car, other than its usual dose of Essex tin worm.
But Christ alive, that face!

-
Especially in moose, sorry Nantucket, grey :D
It was a shame they couldn't be bothered to develop/build it properly... They still had the captive nuts in the chassis rails for the Mk3s antirollbar mounts ;D
The Omega was the car the Scorpio should have been :-\
-
Yes.....the Scorpio certainly fell from the ugly tree. Perhaps Chris Bangle designed it on his day off. :)
-
There is still one of the bug eyed Scorpios local to me , a burgundy coloured estate old boy drives it has a private low digit plate & looks absolutely immaculate.
-

Butt ugly but a nice drive back in the day, especially the 24V cossy version :y
