Wiper stalk problem
« on: 17 October 2018, 18:46:07 »

Well I'm kind of stuck here.

My "new" winter car was fitted with the NCDC 2013 head unit and the NAV-display. It seems that when fitted with this the wiper stalk is a bit simpler with no buttons to change the display messages.

I have removed the NCDC 2013 unit to be replaced more modern stuff and also put in the simpler display. The display itself seems to work alright but with the original wiper stalk I can't change any messages on the display.

From my old Omega that I scrapped I got the wiper stalk with buttons (Got the display from that one too) but that one has an extra connector with 5 wires going to it. But the car doesn't obviously have the connector to the wiper stalks extra connector. I also suspect that the wiper interval control are in some of those five wires.

I guess that the display controls are on the NCDC 2013 unit and then there must be some wires there that I could hook up my new wiper stalk to.

Is this possible??

The original to the left and the one to the right I want to put in.

Thanks

you need to run 2 wires from stalk to display, and 1 wire from stalk to one of the ground/earth studs behind instrument panel

Thanks, can you be more specific on which ones. The brown is ground but which two to the display. There must be some wires already hooked up for this to the display that comes from the head unit.

Do you have a wiring diagram, eg Haynes book of 'dangle berries', as I'm not near mine.

I have a good contact at the local GM service station. He has provided me with diagrams before. I'll try to check with him.

I do have the Haynes manual but the one I have is for 94-99 pre-Face lift Omegas.

Look at "Late Models", and that is same for the MID and wiper stalk :y

Also you need a later stalk as the plug on the one you have is wrong.

Being a later 3.2, it might have the plug on the loom side already... Be folded back and taped to the main stalk loom ;)

The later 3.2 ones don’t have the loom, in UK at least.

Haven't looked that much but what I've seen so far there is no loom.

My other Omega that is a 2002 had the loom but it also had the stalk with buttons on it.

Thanks

I can't recall if my plod did or not :-\ if it didn't then I added the loom for the MID complete with plug.

Never looked on the Elite as it retained the ncdc2015 and Cid...

Certainly the plug is identical to the cruise control one.

When I pulled the inside panel off the door I could see that the panel was fabricated on November 5th 2001, mid-production I guess.

I'm trying to get this sorted out and found that the display connector I have in the car don't have any wires connected to pin 23 and 24. There are no wire that are Brown/Red and just one Brown/White but that one is not going to the pin I need.

So I guess the only option is to get a connector and a bit of the loom from a car that has the simple display and piece them together. I'll check with the scrap yard I sent my old Omega to and hope that they haven't crushed it yet.

One thing would be to disassemble the connector and take the pin 23 and 24 from the other one and put it all together. Might be more difficult and I end up with two broken connectors.

You can add the connectors by (GENTLY!!!) taking the connector apart.

You will need a donor connector to get the bits, although the bits you need are also readily available from electronics outlets.

Luck was not on my side this time, it had already been crushed  :'( :'(

I know another donor but it is a long distance away. I think I can live with the display as it is for a while. The error messages like low window cleaner fluid and low petrol will clear them selves when taken care off. The other stuff like fuel consumption and average speed is information I don't really need. I need to get it out on the road now, we got our first snow tonight and my other one is banned on salted roads :-)

I will eventually fix the connector but that will be for later.

thanks
