That is truly hideous but it is surprising it's still on the road. I reckon the lights alone would write off the electrical system if you turned them all on at once.

Mate of mine bought a Reliant Robin for his wife as a present once. He was joking, of course. He had a 1967 Landy round the corner as backup.

He's now divorced.  ;D

Excellent news! Sounds like a nice Omega you've got there!

A link was posted on here to download pdfs of the manual from Vauxhall somewhere. A quick search would bring it up I'm sure.

Climate is the only thing I don't love about mine. I'd be happier with manual heater controls, TBH, but not an option on the facelift.

Pressing AUTO and selecting a temperature means it will control fan speed, air distribution, heating, air con, etc. to maintain the selected temperature in the cabin. Selecting ECO disables air con completely so it won't cool the air.

You can override the fan speed and air distribution using the other buttons and by pressing one of the temperature controls you can go from one temperature for the whole car to separate left and right settings and vice versa.

i asked about the the other stuff, they said nope only gass added

They hook it up to an automated machine that does everything, which is why they didn't have a clue..

OK if you're sure it only needs a re-gas but hopeless if you've got another problem as where an air con specialist will be able to fault find, Thick Fit will shrug their shoulders and give you a refund. Or in my case, send you packing with no refund and let you extract it from them by snotty letters.

Which Kwik Fit branch was that at, out of interest, meegaveesix?

.. and then you'll get attached to that car, so you'll have 2 Omegas and still be looking for an engine and gearbox!

I think it also requires you to put yourself in the position of the guy behind you. If there's no-one behind you and the visibility is sufficiently bad, the fog lights have to go on, in case someone comes up behind you and doesn't see you until too late. Once that person is safely foillowing you, close enough to see the tail lights, the more important issue becomes him responding to your brake lights so, IMO, the fog lights should go off.

So, I think Brucie's analogy with the main beams is spot on. They should be used dynamically as the need arises rather than turned on with the first patch of fog and off again in the spring  ;)

From highway code:

You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off

That sums it up, IMO. MAY use them, MUST switch them off.

.. and I didn't want to imply that they are totally useless, just that on balance they do more harm when left on inadvertently than they do good when on for good reason. In 20 years of driving I have probably used a rear fog light half a dozen times. We don't exactly see the worst of the British climate in Hampshire, however.

who think that they are saving electricity Grin

You may well laugh. A mate of mine has a TVR and from what he says about the electrical system it's sometimes a choice between headlights and wipers, fuel pump, etc...  ;D ;D ;D

I don't see the point of fog lights, front or rear. For the amount of use they are in fog against the distraction they cause when visibility is perfectly OK and muppets use them regardless they may as well not be fitted. Either that or something that doesn't dazzle and cannot mask brake lights should be employed instead. Aircraft strobes, for instance.

Most likely snapped cambelt - new head needed.

Hmm. Head gasket went then it siezed. My money's on it ran out of coolant and got cooked. Anyway, as you say, lob another K in and off you go.

Last time I saw an 8v K series it had an SU carb on it! Remember those? This was on a 1991 car too!

Yep. Let him sweat a little. If he gets no interest he may come crawling back rather than face having it sitting outside his house.

Doesn't sound too bad, then. A mate of mine had one that started leaking water, from the offside front of the head gasket, behind the alternator, IIRC.

Might be tempting to try and seal the leak with something and limp it home to do the job properly.

Add half a dozen eggs and a couple of gallons of petrol to the budget  ;D

Now, who's got a driveway near Northampton on which you could dump a project car?  ::) :-X

HG is probably just Fubar'd Kevin, and he's saying "little hole" to try and make out the HG damage is minimal.

A blown HG is a blown HG, though!!

You're right. I was just being cynical  ::)

I'd budget for a new set of long bolts for the head too. I doubt very much that they are officially re-useable. Whether you can get away with it on a project car is another matter, of course!

Got to be worth a try. It's about the right mileage for a fubared head gasket.

Head gasket has a little hole in it

That concerns me a little. How does he know how big the hole is? Has it been taken to bits?

I think you're right with option 3.

Yes, the guy took a risk by not specifying a secure carrier but it would leave a bad taste in my mouth if I knew I'd made money on a transaction and the other guy got bu66er all. The money is there for the taking from Royal Mail so why not use it to compensate the buyer to a certain extent?
