Filled the German up with diesel. Gets a bit tedious having to fill the tank every 900 miles or so.  ::)
Ah, these diesels, terrible terrible things.  ::)

Good going, how big is the tank? I've nudged 750 miles in a tank in the VW. Think 800 is possible, but not 900 for me.

But yes, the less visits to the petrol station the better. Just had to fill up the 3.2 again, did not crack 300. Again.  ;D

Passat cc has a 70 litre tank from memory, the 435d is 57l the same as the Zaf

So 900 miles from 57L? ~ 71mpg over a tank, can't see that from 435d?

I've seen mid 60's average on a 70mph cruise up north from the CC.

MID tells me over the last 4,000 miles I've averaged 51mpg, not bad considering I commute into London.

Sadly about the same as me, my commute has also sadly turned into a stop start affair  :'(

Random note on diesels, is it just me or in the hotter weather do they heat up far, far quicker?

In winter I've noticed they take an age to get up to temp, but recently been super quick. I find the 3.2 is less affected by outside temp  :-\

There was a massive dollop of tongue in cheek in my post, as I know how people love diesels.  ::)
The only time that sort of mileage was achieved was on a constant run in the wife's 420d, which will average 62mpg on a constant run, but generally sits around mid 40's mpg due to her driving style. The 435d will only do 48-50mpg on a constant run, which considering most of my run up to Whitby was 50mph average speed monitoring it achieved that easily.  ::) In fairness, I'm not bothered what the 435d does, it's just such a great engine performance wise.  :y
Sorry for any confusion.  :-[

Well a diesel generates less heat than a petrol, so yes they will get hotter quicker on hot days....

Ive just noticed my Ford has an average of 50mpg according to the fuel comp......considering it doesn't do many long runs and its just town work its pretty good  :y

If I reset the trip on a run to Heathrow for example.....it reckons its achieved 75mpg on a steady 70mph run for 65 odd miles  :y

However having the aircon on for the last couple of days has been hammering the consumption  :(
Being only a 1.6TD with aircon on you have give the engine more beans from pulling away....otherwise it struggles....  :(

A mate of mine has just got a merc S350 ... lovely car  :) He reckons the fuel comp is showing 65mpg at a constant 70mph on the motorway ......

Lifted up the back of my Caravan. Removed rear suspension completely. So many rust! But only on the surface. No holes.

bild hochladen

In the afternoon I started grinding and sandblasting. It works fine, but in direct sun it was too hot. 30°C in shadow in my garage yard! But there was no shadow.

So I will do the job Saturday morning.

Also, aren't diesel blocks thicker and heavier than petrol equivalents? So there's more metal to heat up?

Today I cleaned (scraped) and hoovered the old girl out. £1.50 worth of car wash tomorrow and she'll be ready for her new owner. I'd love to say she'll be cherished, but a continued life of hauling building materials awaits, but with the addition of 2 large dogs to contend with too  ::)

I always thought it was due to the larger water jacket years ago, though not sure if that's still the case.

The pussy is up to full temp on the gauge within about 1.5m, which is quicker than any of the Omegas I've owned.

My old TD Omega used to take about 4m to be up to snuff, the Battlebus about double that (but I have doubts about stat on that)

Previous L series Rovers were also about same as TD, about 3-4m

For works diesels I've had, transits I have no idea, as they had timed aux heaters...  ...reassuring laying in the bath on a cold winter morning, hearing the aux heater fire up to warm everything and defrost it.  The shitty Escorts, again no idea, as used to go out and start, then come back in for a brew ::)

Jag electrics were being finicky for last couple of days, silly things like alarm going off, and mirrors not unfolding when unlocking.  Aparently fussy if battery gets low, and has been sat unused for a couple of weeks.

So took it for a spin last night to get some electricity in it - charger wasn't really touching it, I suspect I need to take battery off and charge it that way, but driving it was far more fun.

What's the tech2 version for Jags? Have you invested in one?  :-\
SDD, freely downloadable from JLR.  Like Tech2/MDI, it needs a live subscription to a online service.  Needs 2 hardware devices, one for code reads/config/programming, another for measurement readings.

Jag/LR modern diagnostics is quite different from the methodology used in Tech2/MDI or Vagcom etc, in that you select the complaint, and it decides which codes in each ECU are meaningful to that symptom.

And *IF* I had read the instructions first, I would have known you are NOT supposed to clear all the codes from all the ECUs to see what comes back...   :-[

Finished sandblasting on my Caravan above rear suspension. Ugly work at 32°C, but looks great. Tomorrow I will do the painting in silk black. :D

Next week I will renew the brake pipes rear and the ton bearings (is that right in English?)

Complete reassembling will be later next week.

I ordered a front ABS sensor for the BMW from ebay yesterday afternoon at about 3.00pm and it arrived today!  :y

This afternoon I fitted it and only when I went to plug it in did I realise that the plug was different!  Aaaaah!  >:(

Cue TB ebay rant!  :-X  ::)  ;D
