General Car Chat / Broken car
« on: 02 March 2010, 09:50:56 »
Managed to break the Westfield on the way in this morning. :'(

Bit of an icy puddle in the road. Thought "that looks slippery" so took it very slow. Back end stepped out a little, bit of opposite lock, bit more, full opposite lock. Absolutely no friction between tyre and road. A slow motion 540 degree spin ensued with the nosecone and front wheel unfortunately contacting the bank at the side of the road on the way round.

Nose cone mountings have sheared off, Not so worried about that as Mrs. KW had an "off " a couple of years back and knackered the nosecone so good excuse to replace that and do the job properly.

Steering is a bit wonky so something has bent. Hoping it's not the chassis.  :-/ Doesn't look to be. From the way it hit most likely a track rod with luck.

Bu66er!

General Car Chat / Power Sounder Availability
« on: 27 January 2010, 13:17:09 »
I was at the local stealer yesterday buying some oil and while I was there I thought I'd ask how much a replacement power sounder would be. I'm a bit uneasy about not having a full Thatcham alarm and mine is a bit mullered due to leakage from the batteries.

Gave him the part number and he had a rummage through the computer and announced that they are no longer available. :o

Has anyone else found this or was he just being a muppet?

Part Number is: 09 231 886

Hi All,

I seem to have ended up with some tools from Tidworth that I didn't start out with.

I've got a set of male Halfords torx bits 1/2" drive on a bar. There are a couple missing from the set. I thought they were mine but on checking through my tool box I have mine - and they are 3/8" drive anyway ::)

If anyone is missing them, shout and I'll get them back to you somehow.

I may have mislaid a 15mm combination open ended / ratchet spanner in a brushed stanless finish with "CR-V" down the shank. I say "may" because I can't remember if the set I had included a 15mm. If anyone has gained one give me a shout otherwise the likelihood is that I'm mistaken.   :-/

Cheers,

Kevin

General Discussion Area / Damn....just hapened take 2
« on: 26 August 2011, 22:11:16 »
Coming home from work this evening I thought I was heading into a thunderstorm. Seriously threatening looking black cloud.. Until I realised it was emanating from the ground about 8 miles ahead. :o

A few miles closer, I realised it was coming from Lasham airfield where I am a member of the gliding club. At this point all sorts of things were going through my mind. What could cause such a huge plume of smoke? Not a glider, obviously. Not a tug aircraft... Much too much smoke for that.. Airliners do come and go from the maintenance operation there.. Surely not? :(

Anyway, went past and it looked to be an industrial unit just outside the airfield boundary - but could it still have been an aircraft? :'(

Thankfully not..http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14685487

What a mess, though! The smoke went through all sorts of colours while I was passing.. brown, black, grey, white. Police had closed the nearby road and were in the process of evacuating people. Did see a few ambulances but no idea if anyone was seriously hurt.

Did see a few idiot rubber-neckers just stopping and gawping while fire appliances were struggling to get through, though. Words fail me. >:(
