mini cooper s
« on: 20 January 2013, 13:03:02 »

Hello guy`s, I took a look @ my sister in law`s mini cooper S (2005) this morning.
here`s the problem as diagnosed by the dealer @ the beginning of december.
The car`s engine is making a metallic grinding/ringing noise so it needs a new super charger.
Here`s the actual problem
The air/con compressor clutch has now finally seized & snapped the drive belt.

How easy is it to swap out the A/c pump? is a bunch of special tools required?
The main dealer says they can easily replace the pump when they replace the supercharger!

But the working area in front of the engine is tiny.

I`m almost certain the noisy supercharger will now turn out to be one very knackered A/C compressor.

Easy enough to check, simply pop the belt off and start it for a short period and see if the noise goes.

A truely hateful engine the Chrysler derived Cooper S has though, they drink SO much fuel, the later turbo variant (peugeot?) is SO much better
