new windscreen time
« on: 21 July 2017, 14:53:03 »

I see on my policy, their prefered companys are Autoglass or Mr Windscreen.
Now what , flip a coin ??? or pop around to the local junior school to see if the fitter is available next week  ;D
Last windscreen done was on my GSI astra & it was appalling, The autofarce bloke spent most of his time textin & chattin on his fone.
What can I expect 7 years later  ???

I think it really depends on the Fitter rather than the Company these days, doesn't take much to to a bodge job if your not that experienced or cant be arsed, there are some good quality fitters out there that still pride their work.

When I had my mk4 astra done, the young lad even vacuumed both footwells for me.

That will learn me to drive in the sun and behind a driver with bad eyesight

Same happened to me with Autoglass. I then insisted they fitted GM tracks as the fitters told me that the pattern tracks were not deep and wide enough to grip the rubbers. Once the GM tracks were fitted, it was spot on. All the fitters were decent guys but they were working with shite pattern tracks.

Had Autoglass replace my screen about 8 weeks ago.

Both guys complained that the rubbers never go back in place but everything should be fine.As we were leaving for Wales the following day just went with it,but coming home on the M4 the rubber trim decided to let go and is still in deepest Wiltshire I think  :o

When I returned raised a complaint and they sent out another guy with new fittings.H seemed very skilful and told me it hadn't been fitted properly the last time and the entire screen would need removing again and refitting properly with the new rubber trims.1 hour later and all was done .

Since then nothing has moved and looks perfect...moral is its not the company or even the trims...but the "fitter" they send out  :P
