Met him once. Thought he was an ok bloke. Seems to me that coming from a wealthy background almost automatically tars you with a "rich B****rd" brush in some eyes. He didn't have to resign the Tory party over 3rd runway, could have just gone with whatever was most profitable or whatever.
There are a small number of politicians that have my respect as they did what they really believe, not what the party dictated. Robin Cook, Clare Short, Zak Goldsmith, and some others. Not that I agree with the reason for the resignation, just that I approve of their strength of feeling and that they were "principled" rather than sycophantic career politicians. like most of the others.
Tories will be peeed off at losing a seat, lib dems will be chuffed at gaining a seat that won't make a big difference in the scheme of things, labour won't care as this seat was a no-hoper for them anyway.
