Today I changed the cam cover gaskets and spark plugs, i followed marks guide to the word, put everything back together triple checked everything was how it was,
started her up very very bad misfire and the exhaust is popping like someone is firing shots.
cant beleive ive put everything back together and its not working.
i checked the plugs before they went in and they all looked fine
-
now the engine lights on.
-
Sounds like a couple of plug leads have gone on the wrong plugs. ;)

Likely culprit..........crank sensor.
Also check wiring to cam sensor (94) and MAF connection (74)
-
where would that be on my 3.0? is it at the front of the passenger side bank?
-
Cam sensor here. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1238412398/4
Crank sensor by oil filter http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1193589434/0#0
-
checked crank sensor where it plugs in at the rear of the engine. its plugged in, ive not been underneath it so it cant be that, i wonder perhaps the wiring bridge over the passenger side bank if ive knackered a wire?

Not doubting you but are you 100% sure, also are the leads secure in the dis?

I doubted myself so i switched the 2 around i wasnt 100% on and it made no difference.

Like this :question
Bulkhead
DIS 5 3 1
Plug 2 6 4
Front of car
-
yep, i never took the leads of the coil, just off the plugs.
checked the coil anyway in case i pulled one off but even if one was off should still start?
-
Going to take everything off again and check for any broken wires etc
-
Cam sensor wire trapped under cam cover ?
-
Cam sensor wire trapped under cam cover ?
no its not, i noticed when i took them off so made sure it didnt. nothing is trapped under the cam covers.
-
Where abouts in Hull are you ?

kingswood, want my number?
-
i looked at the coil location on this photo http://images.omegaowners.com/images/guides/v6_engine_pics/IMG_0025.jpg mine is the other way round, as in the plug is at the opposite end and its mounted on its side.
-
pm us your mobile number :y
-
incoming ;D
-
managed to solve the problem I think,
the no6 plug lead in a word is f****d hence the misfire the first time.
the reason it wouldnt start the second time is because 2 and 4 lead were the wrong way round as i made a mistake looking at the key for a different coil when mine is the early one and the other way round.
thanks to Steve (tigers gonads) for coming round, nice guy.
Going to buy a new set of leads tomorrow and hopefully all will be well.....

Vacuum leak ?
-
Right, i've got simon on the phone now :y
He has just disconected the maf and it starts and runs but hunts between 500 and 2000 revs :-/
Any idea's ?
-
As per Albs, vac leak, & sounds like knackered MAF. Carb cleaner around all the vac connections, listen for changes in the engine note
-
Can you swap your MAF over see what happens then. If it`s the MAF I`ve got one here for a 3.0ltr
-
At one point, one of the ht leads fell apart.
This has now been replaced but could it have caused a spike somewhere and breaked something up ?
Thought about the carb cleaner but the engines hunting that much ( with the maf disconected ) that you couldn't tell anyway :'(
It won't run without the maf plug out.
Would a vac pipe cause it to die but by disconecting the maf, it runs :-/

Nup :(
My car is in pieces :'(
I am 7 miles away from him ;D ;D
-
Off topic here, is the 2.5 and 3ltr maf the same ?

Are you near to him to try your MAF to eliminate whether that`s the cause
-

Yep
-
I have a 3.0 MAF or 3 here...although does sound a lot like there is an air leak...a bad one could be caused by the plenum not having been sat back in place properly when putting it back together...or an o ring jamming it slightly open...
-
i've just found one in my shed :y
Simon, answer your phone ;D ;D ;D
-
Is the 19 still there? This often throws a MAF code.
I would be looking at resolving the 19 first
-
The engine is a very early one 1995
The coil pack and maf have the square plug ::)
Has anybody got any of these left ?
-
if i let it run for a bit with the maf off the idling levels out at a lumpy 800rpm took the maf off now cant see any physical damage
-
Sounds like your MAF is breaked :'(
Stick a wanted advert in the part section :y
Make sure it says " Square Plug " ;) ;)
-
hmmmm
same part no
