Hi all!!!
« on: 01 November 2006, 23:00:07 »

Hi everyone, just like to introduce myself....My name's Roger (hence name rogerreno!!) and this is my 1st go at ownership of a Vauxhall...in fact my 1st go at anything non-French!!!

Had a VERY bad experience with a 51 plate Renault Espace 2.2Dci and after emptying my wallet quicker than the Mrs does it had to go  :(
Shame really coz both me and the Mrs loved the car to bits,as did the kids (got 3 kids so plenty of room with no fighting over seats!!) but in the end it just let us down one too many times  >:(

SO....after a short conversation with my dad he kindly offered me his Champagne Silver '99 T reg Omega 2.5TD Elite auto for a resonable price as it was surplus to requirements.
Its done 142k with FVSH and he's owned it from 3 years old,so its well established in the family!!

I will hopefully be taking delivery in the next week or 2 (coz he's waiting for his new company car) and to be honest i'm really looking forward to getting it, although Sarah (my better half) is still a bit unsure coz she's never really driven an auto.

Its a fairly relaxed move compared to what else is in the garage....
Our toys (that we show) comprise of my Factory standard looking Silver 1987 Ph1 Renault 5 GT Turbo with a homebuilt 200bhp engine under the bonnet.
My 1988 Black Standard looking Renault 21 Turbo (currently in process of building race spec engine with power circa 350bhp  ;) )
And last but not least,Sarahs 1991 Renault 21 Turbo with full Evo kit and subtle flip paintjob,17's and a homebuilt and developed 250bhp motor.

Daily runaround is a 2000 X plate Saxo VTR....Told you I was into French cars!!!! ;D

I spent a good deal of time going through the various boards on here last night and was genuinly taken back at the friendly helpfull nature of people on here....specially the 22 page thread about head replacement on the V6!!! It was more gripping than Corrie!!

Roll on Omega ownership....I've told him the overall price will be reflected in the excess miles he does in it before he hands it over, seem to remember his reply ended in **** OFF!!!!

Said to him I can see a Facelift 3.2 V6 Elite on the horizon......... 8-)

But for now i'll take what i'm offered!!!

Cheers all

Howdoo Roj, welcome to the site.  Hope you enjoy what you find and, if unsure, ask away in the various sections.  No doubt someone clever will assist where they can.

Hi Roger, and welcome to the forum  :) That's some garage full of cars you have there, I bet you dread road tax and mot time! There was a Renault 25 on ebay last week and just down the road from me too. I always fancied one of those years back, especially the Monoco version with the leather interior. you hardly see them anymore these days.

Cheers Jim

Hi Roj and welcome aboard :y

I had 2 French cars prior to my Omega, a Pug 605 SVDT, then a Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD Estate. The Pug was comfy, had a few toys and good ICE but let me down badly with head gasket failure - TWICE :( Xantia was a good economical car and quite reliable (ex-wife has it now and still going strong) but just too small and not comfortable enough for me.

Welcome to the site :)

It sounds like you are handy with a set of spanners, and with the info on here, you should be able to keep garage bills down :D

I don't know much about the BMW diesel lumps, but we have one or 2 members here that know them well...

oh and used to have a 21 Turbo - a true cossie basher  8-)

Thanx for all the replies, you certainly know how to welcome someone in!!!

As for the above comment, this is being strongly objected to on the Passionford website at the moment!!

A couple of the members saw an old episode of 'Used car roadshow' from the Retrocar Show at Santa Pod where Jason 'Whatever his name is' (previous presenter on Top Gear) did a review on a 21 Turbo - Incidently the car used was one of my old ones (a Red Ph1) that I sold to another club member!!

Anyway,he too mentioned the all important phrase 'Cossie Eater'...well to put not too finer point on it,it was like showing a red rag to a bull  ;D
If ya fancy a laff, you'll find the link on here!!

http://www.21turboownersclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4681

And yeah,MOT,tax and insurance is a big ball ache BUT...being considerably older, having a clean licence and full no-claims bonus the insurance for all  4 of them comes to less than the average 18 yr old pays for a 1.0 Corsa!!!

After all the probs with the Espace I very nearly decided to sell up everything and buy the Mitsi Evo 6 that I so badly wanted, but after weighing up what i'd spent on all the cars and the engine components for my big BHP motor (hell, the one-off forged piston and liner set from the 'States cost the best part of £1800  :o ) I decided to keep them coz i'd never see my money back and aint about to give it all away for a song!!
Oh and I figured that once the engine's built and the management's fitted and mapped it should be as quick as an Evo,it just won't draw attention to itself!!!  :y

And totally off the subject,I noticed that quite a few of you are from the Northants area...I work down there,so if you see a 'Hanson' 8 wheeler tipper with 'Roger' on the back give me a wave!!!

Cheers for now,

Roj

Hi & welcome :) after reading about the other cars, whats your plans for the megga.

At the moment nothing, I did speak to the bloke on Fleabay last week thats selling the MV6 17" rims as I really quite like them and they suit the car,but after doing a bit of searching on the net regarding the superb  ::) 'Linglong' tyres (no,i've never heard of them either ;D ) I decided to give them a miss.

A magazine in Australia tested them on the Aussie version of the Omega (Holden I think) and lets just say, from their reviews it'd probably have been better on bare rims!!!

I have enquired about a plug'n'play 'chip' that ups the BHP to approx 160 over the standard 130.
The only thing in the back of my mind is its done 142k and I don't really know how its going to fair up to the extra power (unlike my 1st R21T that had 20psi and 230bhp shoved through it!! And that'd done 165k on the original engine when I bought it  ;) )

I'm probably just going to enjoy it for now,its got unmarked alloys, unmarked leather and the Bose sound system....all I got to do now is plan some long journeys so I can make the most of it  :y

Although after looking through the gallery last night and seeing Kev from Glasgow's Irmscher Elite V6....Man that car looks superb,I could see myself in that!!!!

Did say to my dad when I agreed to buy it that I could see a Facelift 3.2V6 Elite on the horizon....
