Both of my two Omegas front shockers have seen better days, however whilst it is easy enough to replace the rears (which have also seen better days!), I am put off from doing the fronts as there is no way I could get the car "WIM'ed" here in Spain ANd I can live with it..

I wonder how many other forum members soldier on with less than perfect front ends because of the difficulty factors of a) doing the job and b) setting it up if need be afterwards.?

front struts are easy mate, and getting them back onto the exact settings you had before is pretty easy to, did mine today!!! :y you are not disturbing tracking or anything else except the camber angle and thats easy to measure with a spirit level and a ruler,  if you need a hand give me a shout

surely if the complete suspension leg with hub is removed from the vehicle the camber settings remain unaffected as its only the bottom balljoint that gets undone
If just changing springs then yes, think you right.

Yes it would work for springs only, shame the shocks aren't replaceable inserts
Streering knuckle/bottom ball joint can be pita to fit though  :-/

so can finding someone down here who can set it up again properly >:(

Tell 'em that you could buy 6 starters for the Omega for the price of 1 starter for a Mitsi.  :y

Maybe, but it would not have needed on in the first place... ::) ::) ::)
swmbo has not forgiven me for getting rid of our V6 Gallant, would have been crap in this poor weather though...... ::)
Mind, they are faster than an MX5...... :-X :-X :-X

my galant went like hell too and didn't go wrong,I truly miss that car :'(

Look into the costs a little deeper.

Work out what your Omega is going to cost in extra fuel per year compared to the new car (£200??)
How much are you going to spend on the new car? what is the loss of interest on that money (or the cost of borrowing it) Add that into the equation.
Add in the depreciation per year of the new car. (£1000+ /yr? )

The Omega doesnt look expensive anymore and is more comfortable, better equipped, handles better, drives the correct wheels etc.

I completely agree ... apart from the £200  ;)
My Omega costs me twice as much (in fuel) to go to work & back. It's a round trip of 45 miles which is approx 2 gallons in the Omega but only a gallon in the diseasal Astra. Due to shifts I go to work 204 times/days a year so I save 204-ish gallons a year  :y :y

those sums work pretty well for me as well Andy, locally my mig does 22-23 mpg and my 406 does 46-47mpg,what I've saved already has paid for the pug even taking into account road tax(insurance doesn't figure as its traders)

The real irony is that is actually LESS than the scrap value.

Also, beware Lagunas of this age - the smart card thingy is very fragile and expensive if it goes wrong.

I agree,I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, lots of issues both electrical and mechanical

Rover diesel engines (400, 25, 45)  etc, are Peugeot engines. Omega's 2.5 diesel engines are BMW 525 Td from the nineties.

only peugeot engines were in early 90's cars, later ones are perkins di I believe

The only towing of the van that I have done with the mig is from west Cornwall into Devon and back so not much good hill free running to be had, hopefully this year may go a bit further afield :y

I get roughly 26-28mpg around town driving and approx 35mpg on a run. Towing the van behind, car fully laden with gear & family and I still get 22mpg, so not too bad   ;D

mine only does around 17mpg towing the pikey palace,is your's a manual?

I have just done a 914 mile round trip from cornwall to folkestone and back with a little driving around while there and used just 18 gallons of fuel :o,sadly it was'nt in the mig,I was feeling skint so took my old 406 hdi instead,it averaged 52mpg which is pretty good at a steady 80 or so on the motorways .God knows how much the mig would have used as I have never seen better than 28mpg on the display,oh and the 406 has done 183000 miles :o :y :y

rear inner wheel arches tend to corrode badly as well around where the rear flexy hose bracket is attached, not easy to see with the splash guard covering it
