Rolling Road/Dyno Shootout
« on: 08 January 2007, 13:56:39 »

Here's an idea that would make for a good social occasion, a chance to find out how well your car's performing, and a way of getting a load of Omegas and their owners into Total Vauxhall magazine.
We run a 'dyno' feature in the mag every month: for those not familiar, its the story and pictures of a group of 16 - 24 cars and their owners, assembled at a rolling road workshop where during the course of an afternoon or morning, each car is put through its paces on the rollers to assess its maximum power capability. The tuner who owns the premises generally makes a charge per car, but it's minimal compared to the cost of dyno charges (this is because the event gets them plenty of FOC exposure in the mag).
We've never done an Omega dyno, although we've covered just about every other model (Corsa, Astra, Nova, Calibra, Vectra, Monaro  etc, as well as "all star" dynos, which cover any Vauxhall model, but all from specific clubs or regions). Also done VXR only, Z22 SE only etc.

It requires someone from within the club to organise the event and oversee proceedings on the day. We will provide a photographer but the info needed regards cars/owners has to be provided by the organiser.

If this is of interest I can help with advice to get the ball rolling.

If not too far and not too expensive I'd be interested

The rolling road sessions tend to be held local dependant upon where the club is eg in their region. As TV mainly do it through clubs, therefore dependant upon anyone interested from OOF  it would need to be somewhere central, given we are all spread out across the country, nevertheless good idea if there are enough OOF members interested, I would be :y

I would be up for it, and after spending the day at Jamsport in Northampton a few weeks ago i would suggest there, for 30ish cars it cost £20 each, first on the rollers at 9am, last was off about 2pm, and they are very good at running cars with an auto box, and they got the burger van to pay a visit  :)

Its also fairly central to alot of the members on here

Sorry but i'm too snowed under to organise, but ill help where i can  :)

It would be interesting to see why my 2.6 is hardly any slower than a 3.0 and what the power differences between petrol & gas are like

Depending where and when, Me and The Mrs could be up for this.

I've been to a few of these events for TV mag and for Granada Men and Motors (remeber Rev BobsTorque Show?) and they're generally a good laugh.

I cn recommend Well Lane Turbo Centre in Batley or HiTec motorsport in Birmingham...
