Title: Don't forget to listen to your radio tomorrow
Post by: STEMO on 13 March 2018, 18:18:59
Theresa May will be on saying "On Sunday we summoned the Russian ambassador to the UK and informed him that, unless Russia explained it's involvement in the poisoning of Sergei Skripal by midnight on Tuesday, a state of war would exist between us we would withdraw from the World Cup and do other nasty things. I must now tell you that we have received no such explanation and, as a consequence, there will be no footie this summer".

What I don't get is how it was administered. As the police officer was affected and people have been told to wash clothing, wipe down mobile phones etc I'd assume it was some form of gas/spray?If that's the case why was the perpetrator not affected? After all someone walking up to you wearing a gas mask/hazmat suit might slightly give the game away.

We thought it might have been delivered by small drone. Pretty horrible stuff if it was still active from home till the policeman intervened.

There are agents in this family of weapons which consist of two individually inert elements.  It is only once combined that they form the nerve agent itself and not necessarily quickly either.  It could take minutes for the reaction to fully take place allowing the administer to both get a safe distance away before it affected them and do so without raising suspicion.

Doesnt really matter. The Ruskies were given the opportunity to put some theory like that forward as a possible explanation.
They weren't even worried enough to bother making any kind of response, so the UK Govt. has no choice but to do something. Even if its something that isn't going to cause fear and trembling in the Kremlin.
If the Govt. were really serious they would have announced that they were going to kick all the dirty money out of London and confiscate dodgy assets, but that would presumably cause more damage to the London economy than they are prepared to live with.
They hinted they might take some action of this sort, maybe possibly at some point. Which probably means they will do three fifths of far call.
Its a minor slap on the wrist for Putin - as was expected.

Yes it seems that there are 'proper' channels and procedures and Boris has said that a sample will be submitted to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.  Russia has already indicated it would cooperate if Britain did this, so why the hysterics and dramatic ultimations?  ???

As usual I suspect there is a lot more to this than meets the eye and what we are getting told.  ::)

And £48m for a new research centre at Porton Down (https://news.sky.com/story/spy-attack-british-troops-to-be-vaccinated-against-anthrax-poisoning-11290201). All very odd.

And now, Russia is going to kick British diplomats out in retaliation (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-43412702).

Expelling Russian spies posing as diplomats is largely symbolic. The real punishment will be a coordinated Western response of targeted sanctions against key senior Kremlin figures and their families, which will include freezing their wealth and assets in the West. When you are promoted to a senior position by Putin you get the use of a lump of money and assets. The key has been to send as much as you can to the West so if you fall out of favour and lose your job and the use of the wealth and assets you have a chunk stashed abroad. Sanctions will stop this happening and when Congress had a list that Putin's asset Trump failed to sign off in February there was a collective sigh in Russia. If they really want to punish Putin then they will go after some of his alleged $200bn crime proceeds, where Russian mafia gangs are allowed to operate with a grey area between the FSB and organised crime as long as 50% of their profits go to Putin.

Russia is steadily going broke, the government's reserves have been exhausted and they are now spending the state pension Sovereign wealth fund, which will run out in late 2019 to early 2020 without large increases in the price of oil to around $80 a barrel.or higher. Not impossible if there is a major new war, but otherwise unlikely.

Putin getting Trump into the WH was about getting sanctions lifted and Trump has failed due to actions taken by Congress. Later this year the November 2018 are going to be interesting with major gains been made in several 2018 elections due to death and retirement suggesting that the Democrats may get a majority. Trump will then probably be impeached due to significant major breaches of the Emoluments Act and the Special Investigator Robert Mueller III into Russian involvement into the Nov 2016 election and Trumps collusion and allegations of 20 years plus Russian money laundering leading to major charges for the whole Trump crime family and their associates.

I cant understand how the Ruskies are supposed to have got Trump into the Whitehouse (or influenced Brexit) by fake news and facts on social media, when those who voted for Trump (and Brexit) are said to be older, low educated people. The very type of people who don't use social media.

This may or may not be true, but it doesn't change the fact that in terms of weapons and conflict ability and technology, they are the most advanced nuclear state in the world, by a far country mile, and are not someone we, or anyone else, should provoke.

Of course we should condemn any underhand activities, but you can't change the fact that, if they wish, they can blow us out of the ocean, and there's sod all we or anyone else can do about it. I very much doubt "trident" would get past their defences, certainly enough to cause them a loss of operational capacity.

I may well be wrong. Or influenced by scare mongering press. etc. But I still feel it's like comparing a pea shooter to a machine gun....

The normal Kremlin MO is to spread 101 fake news stories through their proven and very effective social media amplification methods and useful fools. As Ukraine has been their number one target since 2014, this has already been discussed on various forums and is expected, but Ukraine has got very good over the last 18 months of quickly disproving any allegations with their own truth based counter narratives including Russia trying to unsuccessfully blame Ukraine for the export of RD250 rocket motors used in DPRK ICBMs. The problem being that the Ukrainian design is different and didn't match the DPRK ICBM propaganda pictures but the Russian ones do. ;D ;D ;D

All actions create signatures, including all of us with our lives. The most telling with Russian actions are normally the number of different fake stories, verbal attacks, denials and other things that can be compared against previous actions and what is known about the truth to judge their level of culpability.

ICBMs are very difficult to stop especially when launched in numbers, a full exchange would destroy large parts of Russia, the US and Europe. The US and Russia both have anti-missile defenses which may stop a small percentage of the ICBMs. These days they all have multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles and multiple decoys systems. Russia tends to talk about their nuclear weapons a lot as this is the only area where they have MAD parity with the West. This includes a lot of propaganda which lazy media studies journalist repeat verbatim in the MSM. Where 'big' sells newspapers there has been much press on large Russian 'Satan' nuclear weapons and these are actually not as an effective use of the ICBM carrying capacity as multiple warheads in terms of all/nothing shots and reliability v most of a cluster of small weapons will get through and the dispersed small weapon will cause a bigger area of damage and deaths. In a conventional war they would lose where in terms of military might it is the US and everybody else.

Submarine warfare has always been a game of cat and mouse and although Russian boats have got much quieter the West still has an advantage. What also must never be forgotten is that Russian weapons tend to be much more unreliable than their Western counterparts as the crashing of a significant percentage of their cruise missiles showed when they used them in Syria in 2017. On Youtube there are a number of videos of Russian SSM and SAM launch failures which resulted in casualties.
Title: Re: Don't forget to listen to your radio tomorrow
Post by: Rods2 on 16 March 2018, 00:56:23
Are you suggesting Russia has assisted North Korea’s nuclear weapons development?

Absolutely, not only in terms of ICBM technology but also nuclear bomb technology, especially their miniaturization for use on ICBMs. DPRK do not have the skills or capacity to advance at this rate. There is a small 10-20 mile Russian DPRK common border which is used for the export of sanctioned goods where Russia is the biggest sanctions busting country, but last year Russia started a new ferry service between the nearest Russian and DPRK ports. Putin's judgement is that Little Rocket Man will only use the weapons against the USA or South Korea.

The proposed Kim and Trump summit will be in reality a Putin Officials, Trump summit with Kim as Putin's 'official' contact. The patsy in the room will be Putin's asset Trump where Putin must be very disappointed with his performance to date, but having him in the WH is better than a hostile POTUS, so Trump will come home with some sort of deal, but the important part will be what Trump has to do for Putin. What should never be forgotten is that there is a direct link between a Trump Tower server and a Russian Alpha Bank one. Some of its uses are in the public domain on its use in hacking computers containing state voting data being passed from the US to Moscow and social media messages targeted back in return. 5 eyes SIGINT is the best on the planet and there have been various hints that they know everything that the Trump crime clan have been up to. The difficulty of any intelligence data is that much is difficult to use in prosecutions without revealing sources, but it looks like Mueller has been targeting and turning key individuals by having this information, so he can then use their statements rather than intelligence sources, which is smart. :y

I think you'll find that they provoked us, James. Of course we are no match for Russia, we never were, that's why the NATO alliance was formed.
The game that's been played between east and west for the last 70 years is: Is the leader of Russia/USA really angry/stupid/evil enough to launch a preemptive strike? If you can convince the other side that you are, then you have the upper hand. Putin is winning that game at the moment, I think.
