Omega General Help / Washer pump
« on: 08 May 2018, 10:42:01 »
Seems my washer pump is starting to give up, works intermittently with a very weak stream at times. I've found a replacement on eBay, I'm assuming this is the right part no.90508709. My question is how easy is it to replace, I've seen someone mention the steps needed to remove the bottle, is it the same or is there an easier method as I only need to change the pump?

Any help would be appreciated, thanx.

Omega General Help / Quick question about TC oil
« on: 19 September 2016, 19:28:34 »
As the title suggests, I've got a quick question about oil. I'm almost out of my 5ltr pots of GM 10w40 oil and need to stock back up, however, I'm nowhere near a TC dealer anymore. Don't really want to splash out on anything other than genuine, as so far, it seems to be stopping my breather pipes clogging up anywhere near as much as the likes of Castrol. So, I happened upon this on eBay, any idea if it's genuine, and if the price is OK? Thoughts?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio replacement
« on: 06 September 2016, 17:02:30 »
Could do with some expert advice here, or just some general info really lol.

My current radio unit, a Philips SC-804 with CD changer, has decided to stop working. My battery died (I might have left the lights on  ::) )so much so that I needed the AA to come out and get me going again. Once up and running the radio needed the code to work. I attempted 4 or 5 tries, couldn't recall the code from memory, left it until I got home, and then the radio just stuck on "SAFE". Now I know I'm supposed to have 10 attempts, at least I think I'm right in thinking that, so can only assume it's knackered.

I'm just about to change the bulbs on the Climate Control unit, as some have gone, so thought I'd replace the radio unit at the same time. Can I just replace it with any old (new) radio unit or does it have to be a specific type. I'm sure I read that with the Bose systems it has to be like for like, or the whole lot has to be changed. Is that the same for a standard Philips unit? Also, I'm assuming, due to the age, I'd need an adapter for the new unit, any idea what one and where to get it from? I'd still like to be able to use the display on the dash if possible.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Front wheel play side to side
« on: 26 July 2014, 19:47:23 »
Hi guys, can someone advise on likely cause of this.

Had a slight noise from front end that went away when I braked, thought it was something to do with the brakes so jacked the car up and checked the front NS wheel. No play up and down but movement side to side. Could see the track rod moving when moving the wheel. Now I know the steering idler needs replacing, I've got that but not had a chance to change it as my jack seized up on me, that'll teach me to leave it out in the rain  ::)

Could it be that or could it be something worse?

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated  :y

Omega General Help / MOT passed, just a few question though
« on: 07 June 2014, 14:47:15 »
Looking for some advice after the MOT, if anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Put the old wagon through it's MOT on Fri, passed without any major problems, which surprised me a little ;D But she came back with a few advisories
The nearside front anti roll bar linkage has slight play
Steering Idler bush worn
Nearside + Offside rear parking brake return springs missing.

Are these easy fixes, am I looking at a huge bill for parts or are they fairly cheap? Also think the near side wishbone needs replacing as there's a knock from that side when going over certain bumps.

Another thing that came back on the MOT was the emissions. Natural idle was fine, better than last year. Might have something to do with giving it a good blast out before hand with a bottle of Redex. But the fast idle came back a fair bit higher than last time
My CO level was 0.18% against 0.06% last year
My HC level was 131ppm against 111ppm last year.
Lambda was 1.02 which is the same as last year
What could be the likely cause of the increase this year and what can I do to sort it.

Again, any help or advice anyone can offer would be appreciated, thanks.

Omega General Help / Cam belt kit and water pump
« on: 15 January 2014, 10:30:01 »
Hi there,  could do with some advice on this if anyone can help.

It's nearly at the 4 year mark now since the last belt kit change so am looking to put an order in with the nearest VX garage that does TC, seeing as the belt kit seems to be cheaper from them than Eurocarparts. My question, should the water pump be genuine as well or doesn't it matter that much?

Also, does anyone have a rough idea of the cost of a genuine rocker cover gasket, just so I know what to expect when I phone them.

Omega General Help / Headlights and Fog lights
« on: 13 December 2013, 19:59:55 »
Looking to replace my headlights in the new year, cash flow permitting that is. They're looking tired now and I get fed up with T-cutting them every so often just so I can get some light out of them. Any idea what's the best option for replacements and where to get them. I've no desire to get genuine ones, not at more than £150 each  ::)

Also need to replace one of the fog lights as the lens has a crack in it, letting in a little water now and again. Would like some clear ones if possible from later models but don't know if they'll fit. Anyone know if it's possible to fit FL fog lights to a pre FL car? How about the best place to get them from, or would it simply be a breakers job?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Paperclip code
« on: 02 December 2013, 14:48:53 »
My EML has been coming on intermittently over the past few weeks. Comes on, clears when I turn engine off and back on again and probably won't come on again for a week or 2. Did the paperclip test trick on it this afternoon and it came up with these flashes
10 - 3 - 4

Anyone know roughly what could be wrong and what's the best way to correct it?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Sump question
« on: 25 November 2013, 15:37:45 »
Probably a silly question but thought I'd ask it anyway.

I've done 2 oil changes over the past couple of months, with another 2 planned. I know the sump on the 2.0 takes 4.5ltr and cars above the 2.2 take 5.5ltr (I think I'm right on that). Each time I've changed my oil it's taken more than the required 4.5 to get to the max on the dipstick. Usually around the 5ish ltr mark. I'm curious as to why this is, so my question is this. Can the lower part of the sump be swapped, is it possible that my 2.0 has, say a 3.0 sump, or at least the lower part?

I mention this because every picture I've seen for an oil change on a 2.0 has the sump plug on the side, and the v6 have it underneath. Mine is underneath, on the base of the sump and not on the side like in the pictures.

Like I said, probably a silly question, just wanted to know if that's why it's taking more than it should. Or maybe I'm just really bad at reading the level on the bottle lol

Omega General Help / Coolant flush and change.
« on: 26 August 2013, 17:11:47 »
Got a week off coming up shortly so was thinking of doing a full coolant flush and change. Got my ABS TC card through so will try and find a dealer that still does it and get some red GM coolant. I'm assuming the 20ltr from GM (93165619) is concentrate and not ready mix, sounds a good price at £46.98+vat for concentrate.

I've had the coolant changed before, not for a while I'll admit, but never fully flushed. The head went shortly before I got the car so chances are there could still be some oil in there somewhere.

So, was thinking of chucking in some coolant flush, then cleaning it through followed by a degreasing agent of some kind, and then doing another flush to get it all out. Questions, firstly should I go for Bars flush or Holts Redflush 2 step? Secondly, what would you recommend I use as a degreasing agent? Also, does this sound a little like overkill?

Omega General Help / Rear pad change
« on: 04 August 2013, 17:14:42 »
Having done the front ones, finally, it's now on to the rear one. How easy is it?

Reading the Haynes it doesn't look too difficult, but you never know. What problems, if any, am I likely to run into?

It says that I need to realign to piston so that the cut away is at a downward 23 degree angle. How easy is it to do and what would you use to adjust if need be.

General Discussion Area / Trade Club consumables
« on: 25 July 2013, 21:38:17 »
A mate of mine mentioned in passing about the fact you can get consumables from Vx on the TC. Anyone know what's included and the sort of prices, is there a price list floating around somewhere by any chance?

Omega General Help / Intermittent ABS light
« on: 01 July 2013, 17:04:33 »
Been getting an intermittent ABS light on my dash now for some time. First started a few years ago, but only showed up once every 6 months or so. Now it's becoming slightly more regular. Switch the car off then back on again and it clears, so thinking it might just be a connection somewhere that's causing it. Anyone know what it might be and how to fix it?

Omega General Help / Vauxhall Griffin badges.
« on: 22 May 2013, 17:11:17 »
Hi there, does anyone know where I can get a replacement badge for the boot lid handle on my Omega. Some lovely little scrote decided it would be good to pry mine off and vanish with it. It was silver with a black background. Not a major thing really but does make the back look a little scruffy without it.

Also thinking about getting one for the front as well as it looks like they tried that one too. But might just replace the grille as it's on its way out anyway.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Omega General Help / Brake pad change advice needed.
« on: 19 May 2013, 18:20:45 »
Hi guys, I'm thinking about saving myself a few quid and doing my front pads and sensors myself, as well as a full brake fluid change. But no idea what pads or sensors to get.

Pretty much every parts site I look at lists various different types of pads for both ATE and Lucas callipers. Some say they're prepared for wear indicators some don't. I'm a little stumped to say the least, I really don't want to buy a set and find out they're the wrong ones.

Any advice on how to find out which ones I need. Also, should I go for aftermarket ones or splash out on GM ones?

Thanks.
