Is there a guide how to do them? Any special tools required?

I've just bought a cheap stop gap omega as at short notice the crank sensor has started playing up on my V6 and im driving to Suffolk tomorrow.

The chap I bought it off stated the low brake pad warning light came on a couple of weeks ago. Is there a percentage of pad left before the light comes on. Visually there is a bit of meat left on them but I'd say there about 80 percent worn.

I only need the car for around 500 miles most of which will be cruising speed.

Also it had an oil and filter change in Dec 2014 and has done about 4000 miles but the oil looks black. Is this typical of the 2.2dti?

 :)

Cheers guys! Am I right in thinking that a genuine crank sensor is the way to go.

After stopping briefly to go shops my car wouldn't start. It turned over but refused to fire up. I left it for about 30 mins and then it started up fine.

Now today I was driving about 40mph and the engine died on me. I managed to coast to a safe place. I tried to start her but she wouldn't have it. Left it 20 mins then it started fine.

Could this be a crank sensor issue?

Ideally mechanically sound. Not fussed about bodywork too much. Just needs to have mot for a couple of months.

£2-300 ideally.

PM me if you have anything. Midlands area if possible.
