V6 Timing belt
« on: 07 March 2019, 21:17:35 »

Hi, I'm once again the proud owner of an Omega for the fourth time. I have an 03 2.6 with 89k showing, there is no mention of timing belt having been done so to be on the safe side I'm going to get it changed. Can anyone help me out with original part numbers so I know I'm getting the correct belt, my engine number is 08787883, or maybe links to the correct one. Many thanks

many people buy 2 sets of this clicky (2 sets so you have enough rollers)  and use the original back plate .

just a belt but Gates here clicky £27

full gates kit here K025453XS = £119

Hi, thanks for that, the Gates kit link you gave me, will that fit cause my engine numbers higher than the info they give?

Yup.

Belts all the same length, just swap the back plate from your current belt ;)

And buy the V6 Cambelt dvd from the forum shop :y

The Gates full kit for your engine number is K035453XS. It's the same as the other earlier kit linked above except for the backplate used on the tensioner roller. You use the existing backplate from your engine if you use the earlier kit and swap the new rollers onto it.

This SKF kit for a SAAB with the same engine as yours will also be fine. SKF make the factory original rollers and their bearings. At £47.95 it's a lot cheaper than the full price Gates.

You will also need to borrow or buy a GM V6 timing belt locking kit.

I always wonder why to change the backplate, its included to kits I use and I change it but I do not understand why. I might not be a wearing part?

I seem to recall that at some point they changed the design of the backplate so perhaps it became part of the cam belt kit to ensure it was swapped at the next belt change?

There's certainly no need to change it. I always buy the cheapest kit I can find and use the existing backplate if the supplied on isn't compatible.
