NCDC 2013 Radio Safe
« on: 10 September 2010, 02:01:02 »

Hi all, jumped into the Omega today and when I went to the nav menu the message "Radio Safe" kept coming up every 5 seconds or so with a loud beep >:(, it also happens in the radio menu but I have noticed that in the main menu and the cd changer menu that it doesnt come up - also the steering wheel controls don't work.
Anyone any ideas as to what is wrong (sounds like a tech 2 session)  :'(.

Thanks in advance  :y.

If the units are like the old units the cd changer and radio have seperate codes.

I believe these are supplied when the car is purchased and are on the car pass.

Dont think it's as simple as a tech 2 sesion with out the codes, someone else may know different though.

The head unit is a NCDC 2013 - they don't use security codes, they are married together so that one cannot work without the other, I'm thinking that somehow the head unit has depaired itself from the CID, any thoughts from anyone on this?

Did it do it next time you started the car?

Wondering if the code negotitation failed this time, though never seen that happen before.

(Assuming you haven't changed anything)

Tried restarting car (Leaving it off for a while) I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery but it's still the same.

Assuming you haven't changed radio or screen, something has corrupted.  You may end up in a whole heap of smelly mess  :'(

My appologies, thought they were coded.   :-[

I spoke to someone at the dealers today and he thinks they are coded too.

Nope, you were right.  The devices in the 'ring' (NCDC/CD Changer/Screen/Telematics) are all paired together. They are paired with a 4 digit code.  They do not use traditional radio codes that need to be reentered after disconnection.

Note, logically, the CD Change part of the NCDC is a seperate device, even though it is part of the same NCDC unit.

I have researched this further and it would seem that the problem is due to the system looking for a telematics unit which does not exist and that this can occur because of a software problem due to a power failure or surge, the solution is to delete the telematics unit and the resulting error (no communication on the bus) that it causes.
Does this sound plausable?

Hmmm, unlikely as you don't have a telematics and the system (2013) would not of been configured for one.

More likely is that the CAN communication between headunit and screen has been disrupted or one of the units has lost it's pairing code (corruption). Visit to someone who knows how to use a Tech II (So that wipes out the average dealership) for these headunits is required.

Could it be that the system is corrupted and is now thinking that it has telematics? - I was reading on some of the german forums about people who have experienced the same thing I have and this is what turned out to be the problem.

Radio safe means that the HU has no pairing code IMHO.

Do you think a tech 2 session will sort it out? :-?

WIth my (pretty extensive) testing of coding around these units, I doubt a telematics misconfig would cause that...

...its as if the HU has dropped back into delivery mode (in which case try a depair (will likely fail) and repair using the original pairing code) or has corrupted its code (you could be up a narrow, smelly inlet looking for an oar).

Shame you are overseas, as this is one of those instances where I really would advise anyone to come to me, despite distance, to fix  :'(
