Monday morning Sounds about right :y
-
We've pretty much almost started. No symptoms and not diagnosed or anything, it just has considerable appeal. Staying at home and doing nothing. ;)
-
Yes .
For a few it will be very traumatic not being able to do their normal routine and will not be able to gainfully fill their days.
-
Yes serious & difficult times for many.

Yes serious & difficult times for many.
A lot - and I mean a lot - of people are going to lose their livelihoods, homes etc before this is all over.
Going to be hard to maintain "social distance" when they're all sleeping under the same bridge..
-
I was hoping for a few weeks of isolation, however my work has to stay open and I'm expected to be here. Luckily I am classed as a key worker and therefore should have childcare sorted.
Let's see if the theory matches the reality.

I'm intrigued as to how that will work :-\

As far as I'm aware, the government are telling schools and childcare providers to stay open for the key workers children. I suspect the reality will be that there won't be enough children where my son is and he'll be grouped together with other local schools/childcare providers. Although I'd like to think they'd keep a member of staff from his current place at the new place to at least provide a familiar face.
However, I am just going by what I am being told and a little bit of reading between the lines, so the chances are, I'm completely wrong.

It was stated today by a head teacher that children who do still attend "school" will not be doing normal curriculum work, but would just be kept busy ;)

I'm not bothered about him being taught at the moment, just kept safe and entertained, whilst I go about my 'key worker' role working on jobs that have already been waiting 6 months plus ::) Yes, an urgent job could walk through the door any second, although we normally get 1-5 a week like that, the past couple of weeks have been quiet.
As long as there is 1 person in both of the sections of my office, most urgent stuff can be dealt with and I could be at home looking after my son :-[

Sounds like you could work at home perhaps with some kit?

Unfortunately not, if I take my works laptop home, I have access to email and Skype, nothing else. Everything I work is on an air-gapped network.

I've been out to do some shopping for my elderly neighbours this morning and life seems to be going on much as normal. :-\
Maybe someone should mention to Boris that Britain didn't get the memo about staying in! ;D

Yes, Asda seemed much more civilised this morning. None of the basic things, like pasta, rice, bog roll, but plenty of fresh meat, milk, etc. A few security guards and constant announcements about three items only, but people seemed a bit less stressed.

I went to the self service checkout and had a quick chat with the lady there and I said that I bet that she's been dealing with some truly vile people over that last few days and she rolled her eyes and replied that it's been awful...just awful... :(
-
Our very large local Asda was like the locusts had descended again this morning when I tried to get Milk .
No pasta/fresh meat/Loo rolls etc so pretty much what ever you could eat was being bought...utter madness.I think people will go bust buying all this stuff to fill cupboards with long before they cant make their rent payments .
-
Our local "convenience" store has plenty of everything .. milk, bread, eggs, even loo roll, only thing hes out of is paracetemol.. says it has been quieter than usual ... seems everyone is rushing to supermarkets and forgetting the local shops... ok he is slightly more expensive and doesn't stock fresh meat, but his prices haven't changed and the service is as good as always ... use it or lose it I say .. :)

If they controlled the production of loo roll maybe we could use it as currency seeing as Sterling is worth bugger all at the moment? :)
-
Yes but we can use clean and dirty bank notes...dont fancy the alternative !!

called in at my local farm shop (which i do quite often when passing ) for sacks of potatoes
i'm getting bits of shopping for 6 self isolating, but often give mum or the 80 Y/O lady next door some anyway.
farmer said this is stock meant for sale in June
lots of posh cars turning up
i wonder how many buyers will return the sack fulls of spuds when they open them and find out they have "dirt" on ;D :D
spuds don't last long stored in centrally heated houses , so plenty will go to waste
no flowers for sale ,unlike all the supermarkets
on a side note ...
if you are visiting elderly relatives ,mother's day etc ,
wear a scarf or mask over your mouth and wash hands etc
no one wants covid 19 as a mother's day gift
though i expect most of you here ARE the elderly relatives ;D :D
-
I'll post this in here. I can't find the original post, but I know it was mentioned on here.
I've had confirmation through work that only 1 parent needs to be a key worker for childcare/school to take them in.
-
Plenty of stock in Morrisons this lunchtime with the exception of fresh chicken, pork and chocolate. Other than that it's almost back to normal.
Although 1/3rd of the veg section is now mothers day flowers, as is the entrance hall, outside the gates.. pretty much anywhere they can stick flowers, they've stuck flowers! I guess nobody is buying them, and they're still having their usual deliveries..

On the news this morning at 7 o'clock. ;D
-
I was up at 5am this morning to take a granddaughter and a friend of hers[both have severely disabled kids]to the local Asda for 6am as they had reserved the first hour or something for those in at risk groups. They had to show paperwork to prove this as well as some form of ID before being allowed in.Even at that time there was no bog rolls, eggs or sugar and only a few packets of pasta.

Always buy tuna in sunflower oil. Then you can mix it into a bowl of pasta and it's reasonably tasty. :y
Ideal if your skint or you have nothing else in due to the apocalypse. :)

Really hate the smell of Tuna. Brings back memories of a girl I met in a nightclub in 1983. :-\

No, it's because some people like to fart around doing stuff......others don't.

Told this morning we ( NHS front line) will be issued with letters to cover our movement when lock down starts, it states place of work and home address to stop us taking the piss apparently !

Tut, Tut. More Fake News :-)
Pleasence & Garner stole the aeroplane but it ran out of fuel/developed engine problems and crash landed. It was Dickie Attenborough (Big X) and Gordon Jackson (Inteligence) That failed the "Good Luck" test. Apropos of nothing, David McCallums' (Ashley Pitt) cousin was my German teacher at school. She wasn't very happy when we filled the classroom with soil from secret pockets in our trousers :-)

Sorry Malc ....

She'll need 2 letters then ;D I doubt we have enough coppers on the street to enforce anything though ::)
-
Will I need me dogs name on mine?

We still have to go in as classed as frontline for our place of work. Today it has been decided that we are to split the team in two, with team A doing Monday-Wednesday, team B doing Thursday Friday. Following week team B Monday-Wednesday team A Thursday Friday
Senior mangaement told the students not to travel home for the Easter break, so they all breaked off home

Boris to address the nation at 2030.
Lockdown time is upon us! ::)

I think after yesterday's idiotic behaviour you are spot on sir.
-
Well, this chinqy flu, is now causing unnecessary hardship to key workers, how's that you ask, well us lorrists live on crap food, McDonald's closing not a problem... But ffs they've now closed Gregg's, Even the bloody Lufftwaffa didn't stop the WRVS, but a little chinqy thing has, Were now officially at war :-[
-
WELL ..... at least the roads will be quiet going to work .... ::)
-
Roads are eerily quiet around here. I would estimate two thirds less traffic.
-
I went out this morning to do some shopping for my mate's 89 year old mother, and there was plenty of traffic, pretty much as normal. ::)

The BBC giving airtime to Labour's Jonathon Ashworth trying to claim credit for the lockdown. ::)
Who'd have thunk it? :-X :D

Sports Direct have applied for an exemption for at least some of its stores to remain open on the grounds that they sell exercise equipment which people will need as the gyms are shut.
-
It’s not all doom and gloom, car showrooms are to be closed, so my rare silver 3.2* will increase in value yet again. :y
* For newcomers to the forum this refers to a Vauxhall or Opel Omega. ::)
-
Sports Direct have now done a U-turn on the idea of trying to keep stores open.
-
I've just come in from a very relaxing morning. Traffic was very light, the park was quiet (no need at all to get within 10 metres of anybody) and, during the first hour of shopping for over 65's in Iceland, there were about 5 of us in there.
People around here are, in general, behaving very well.

What on earth possessed you to put the news on ???
Watched season 1 of Breaking Bad last night, about to start season 2. Next week will be seasons 1-3 of Ozark followed by Twin Peaks and then the entire X Files...
Shouldn't need to watch the news for at least three weeks :D
-
Might also raid Helfrods on the way to Tescos in order to stock up on cleaning stuff ::)
-
I have watched the whole series of Bulletproof 2 & loved it sheer escapism + nice vehicles & weapons, just up my street..
-
Been driving round the city dropping prescriptions into pharmacies and people on the whole seem to be complying, couple of odd bits though, gardeners on the retail park mowing lawns and why the hell do tile/flooring shops need to be open ??
-
Asda petrol 102.7p this morning, diesel 108.7. A garage about 500 yards from there had 119.9 for petrol, don't know how much business they'll do.

They're probably lumped in with building supplies, Jon, and they need to stay open or there'll be thousands of self employed builders in the shit.

There's a building site on my road. Seems like business as usual today. ::)
Maybe they're doing some mothballing...
-
one site this morning, usually has 100 to 120 people on it, only had about 30 total.

I for one am quite prepared to pay the £30 fine rather than "go out and exercise for an hour" :o

It doesn't have to be continuous, though. I could fit about 3 'bedroom exercises' into an hour, at an average of 20 seconds per exercise and 19 minutes 40 seconds rest. ;D
-
20 seconds :o does thatinclude time for the cigarette afterwards? ;D ;D
-
Last week there was a petrol station at the other side of town from me that was at £139.9p for unleaded :o and there's a Tesco petrol station and an Esso one less than a mile from it!

When I was 18 or 19 that was about right. :)
Any notch on the bedpost was good news. Regular visits to the clap clinic would often follow.

I don't understand why the rozzers are stopping cars
people still need to shop etc .
a car is a bubble till you start winding windows down and asking questions ::)
concentrate on making sure people walking about coughing stay away from each other , while i pick stuff up ;D
had 2 muppets right in the face of the Chemists assistant when collecting stuff for the oldies

I went to Tesco today and they have a two out, two in policy and we're all 'coralled' airport style with markings on the ground two metres apart in the car park.
There was a bloke started to kick off, and the security guys didn't mess about just told him to go or they'd call the Police. So off he went yelling and carrying on like the idiot he is. ::)

It’s about time they enforced a one way system in supermarkets, bloody folk going up and down everywhere >:( I suggest no parking up whist in the isles procrastinating what to buy, and people talking and blocking the though route. A 20 second stop not more than 21 time’s per shopping expedition that is stiffly monitored with offenders chucked out after their second warning, that’s seven minutes, that’s plenty......get in, get out, go the correct way around, no parking or stopping then piss off home :y

not great policy when you have to shop for 6 self isolating (5 oldies plus 1 severe asthmatic) plus yourself though

I saw on the news today the first pictures emerging of bins filled with uneaten bread/veg/other food that fu£king morons decided to panic buy.
I hope the daft £unts go bankrupt. ::)
-
Soon to be uncollected bins the way things are going. With all of the tips closing (according to BBC), that will not be pleasant.
-
Mm we can add a healthy dose of typhoid to the covid then perhaps just to make sure :y
-
Indeed ,loads of food waste after people panic bought
some councils stopped garden waste bins ,which round here includes food waste
not much food waste goes in my bin, just potato peelings etc
so I'm making a compost heap in an old plastic bin down the garden
I guess the UK will have a plague of rats and flies soon :(
in other news ,I was 50 yesterday, which bumps me up a group band , so my chance of dying of "Chinese virus" quadrupled over night ;D
-
Big family party for your 50th Dave? :D Happy belated Birthday mate. :y

I get to feeling really sorry for people, and then I watch a programme about sharks having their fins cut off to go in soup and being thrown back alive (on now).....and my feelings change.
We really do deserve everything we get.

Dirty bastards will eat anything. Be good if they started eating each other.

Watched that as well.
It was explained to me many years ago whilst a lad learning on a deep sea merchant vessel with a Chinese crew (Brit officesrs I’ll add) that the Chinese will eat pretty much anything that turns its back to the sun.
Hence, they refuse to eat the pilot fish with the big sucker on their back that adheres to a sharks belly.
Ps - shark steaks are quite tasty, especially after watching a Chinese bosun dancing about with a monday idiot hammer trying to get a big one between the eyes that was hauled onto the deck whilst at anchor. Any excuse and the fishing hooks were out!

Used to go to school with a Chinese kid, his Dad owned several companies in the area.
He told me once that it was bad to whistle, cos it invited the evil spirits to visit you.
Another bit of advise was to eat dog meat if you have the fever
A very old lady lived in a back room & only spoke Chinese
Then one day without warning the family just moved & at the age of 10 I really missed my little buddy & months went by & then I got a postcard from NY city :o the whole family were now in the US. that Christmas he sent me a one dollar bill which I`ve still got somewhere :)
Bit of a ramble, I wonder what he`s doing today ???
