Title: Recommendations for a Cordless Grass Strimmer
Post by: Auto Addict on 10 July 2019, 10:31:53
I've got a Flymo battery operated, but the cord keeps jamming every couple of feet.

Looking to replace it, petrol powered are too heavy for me to handle.

I have the WORX 20volt Lithium - great little unit - depends on size of job of course but very happy with it

I have a petrol strimmer but it is not really fit for purpose because......

1......It is a proper bitch to start.
2......It comes with 'pain in the arse' strapping system to hold it in place against my body.

How about good old-fashioned hand shears?

Coincidentally I bought a Hilka cordless strimmer yesterday for £39.99.  :)

It'll get it's maiden outing on a fairly overgrown patch of land later so I'll let you know how it copes.  :y

Just replace the spool if its jamming.

The first cordless I had - Wank and Decker - was superb. Auto spool never failed, batteries were good for 3 years etc.  But I left it in the garage.  The replacements since have all been utter wank  TBH.  Now back on another wank and decker, but its already playing up.

If the streamer is otherwise good, keep it going, as the new ones seem universally shite :(

How does a streamer cut grass?  :P
It's a strimmer which is connected to the internet. Instructions are streamed and it does it all by itself.
Obvious, really.

Back on topic, this is the strimmer I bought yesterday (https://www.trago.co.uk/home-garden/garden-machinery/strimmers/hilka-18v-li-ion-cordless-string-trimmer.html) and it got it's maiden outing this afternoon.  :y

For £39.99 it's not a bad little tool and I gave it a hard test where the grass and weeds were about 2ft high.  It was a bit too much for it in places and it struggled with couch grass for example, but coped with grass, soft weeds and even young brambles. It'll be good for light work, edging etc  :y

The only downside was when inevitably the line disappeared into the spool and like all strimmers it was fiddly to remove the spool to retrieve the line.  ::)

That's your problem, your using a spool of fishing line,  Chuck that away and fit a steel blade.
