laminate flooring trim
« on: 11 February 2021, 18:21:34 »

My daughter has just had laminate flooring laid. I know there has to be an expansion gap around it but .... they have left a gap around the front edge of the fire place/hearth. While my daughter is very pleased with the whole thing, I think this gap looks horrible and will be a general sh1te trap.
My question is .... is there some kind of flexible 'rubber'/flexible 90 deg trim available to cover this gap? There are some fairly small radiuses/radii around the hearth. Or just fill the gap with wood coloured sealant?

You can actually cut hard upto the hearth as long as all other sides have an expansion gap. There are some small trims which would be better than sealent.

Hopefully they did a proper job and replaced the skirting with the laminate under, rather than bonding the awful quadrant on?

Unfortunately .... they used the 'awful quadrant', though in their defence it's the deep (8"?) stuff in an old Victorian terrace. And all the rooms have just been painted
Which small trims do you mean? A look on Google shows there are flexible flat trims more like door thresholds

Is the hearth of straight edge design (like Marble) or wavy like stone. If it has straight edges, can you not mitre three lengths of trim as a border/frame.

it's a stone effect & the ends have a radius on them

Right..that's sounds tricky. I'm guessing the gap is, more or less, hidden when looking straight down, but is more obvious when looking at an angle. How big is the gap?

I admit it's a bit of a scribble, but I can see it fine.

I'll take a better picture tomorrow. It doesn't look that bad from this view but I wouldn't have been happy with it

I've seen this used before, colour matched to the flooring. It dries like a rubber compound and is easily removed from the flooring if you get a bit clumsy like.
