partner van starts up easy enough but will now only run for a few seconds now before dying. prior to this it started to run crappy. one garage said it was either injectors or pump or maybe turbo. its not a turbo.  another guy seems to think the cat has collapsed causing a outlet blockage. just before it died it struggled to get any speed up 30mph max. there are no warning lights on. any ideas pls.

Drop the exhaust at the manifold and see if power is restored,if it is then you'll know cat/exhaust is blocked

If it's the old 1.9 non turbo lump there ain't a great deal to go wrong on them,pumps can play up but tbh it probably wouldn't light the EML,the fact that it will run does point to blockage somewhere
