Title: Airbag
Post by: Ronnie64 on 09 August 2019, 13:09:04
Hi

I have joined on my behalf of my father who has a Vauxhall Omega CD V6 1999 which he loves (sometime I think more than his children  ;D).
It in the garage in Bournemouth and he needs a left hand passenger seat airbag. I've been looking on eBay for him but am struggling to find one that matches the part number he has. Can anyone recommend any sites or contacts I can try?

Has it gone off? If not, there is a TSB about its connections.

Failing that, try a local scrapyard, or one of the breakers here for a 2nd hand one.

As far as I know, all Omegas from 1998 to 2003 used the same part.

Which airbag, also you CANNOT post them, collection only, if it were to go off, the court case would be interesting,,,,..
So side airbag, dash airbag, door airbag. Collection only from Hoofland. :y

If it's cloth trim, I've got complete seats from(still in car) met-plod estate.  My2000.

Hi

It hasn't gone off. What is a TSB?

I understand about not posting them. Not sure what Hoofland is?

Regards

Ronnie

TSB is a manufacturer's Technical Service Bulletin.

Hoofland is a shed full of Omega bits near Huntingdon ;D

First link I could find for it - https://workshop-manuals.com/vauxhall/vectra-b/n__electrical_equipment_and_instruments/instruments_telltales/technical_service_bulletins/poor_operation_incorrect_operation/side_airbag_light_comes_on_tc_77/87/

Gawd knows how to get one of them out.. That's if plod spec had them, will look later.

Also the "shed" as nick said is rapidly emptying, might have to do a bulk sale to somebody, just to clear everything... :)

Two screws, back panel falls off.
Two nuts, Airbag falls off.
Several cable ties, liberty :y

I thought airbags had a "useable life" and after that they were deemed not viable.I would imagine most omegas on original Air Bags had reached that point ...and begs the question would they even deploy if needed ?

Early ones were a service item because the life expectancy  was unknown and it was thought that they might deploy after a certain point... Think the Millennium bug circa Easter '99 ;)

Time has since demonstrated that the concerns were rather unfounded :y

In the early days of airbags 70s/80s to early 90s dealer inspection of airbags and even replacement of airbags was recomended after a number of years. Since then experience has showed that airbags are extremely reliable and work as they should even in 25+ year old vehicles. I dont think any manufacturer has a replacement regime for airbags anymore. If the airbag light comes on with ignition and then goes out as it should i would feel very confident that the Omegas original airbags would deploy as they should if ever needed.
