The world now feels at least as dangerous as it did at the height of the cold war.  :(

We are in WW3 now but just denying it. At least our generation can genuinely say we lived in the best times ever.

Selling the family silver omega  :o

I had 3 Carltons once , turns out you can only drive one car at a time  :o
so having a spare spare spare car is probably overkill  ;D
unless they're FORDS or French  :P

Recently went down from two cars in the house to just one. A second car just doesn't get used. I need to reinvent myself as some kind of boy racer  ::)

How about a Sports car? Just use at weekends and sunny days ie three times a year.

I remember years ago being at a tourist spot with good views down to Monselldale ( something like that) the place was packed. Then there was a roar as a two seater Audi TT “ roared up the hill to park. Everyone looked. It was the finance manager and his dolly bird for the company I worked at……… Go on.

General Discussion Area / Chemist prescription deliveries
« on: 10 April 2024, 10:04:32 »
My dad manages independent living with carers twice a day.

His eight tablets a day are delivered weekly in a nomad ( daily dispensing box) by the local chemist.

They are kept in a locked box by the carers in his house and each day the carer prompts him to take them. So far so good.

Sadly the chemist “ forgets” to do and or send the box some weeks. Our solution has been to have the care company send a team leader out specially each Thursday to ensure next weeks has arrived and if not chase up with chemist and then go and collect it. No extra cost to us.

Apparently other chemists let their clients down similarly and have carers chasing them.

Anyone on here have a similar experience?

I have in mind to write to the chemist to complain but suspect it will be shrugged off as it has in the past when I called in. Presumably the nhs/ taxpayer foots the bill for deliveries? Is there a governing body that monitors performance? Or am I flogging a dead horse ( again)?

General Discussion Area / Re: Starlink.

We too live in the countryside but Spain. No chance of copper or fibre ever..

Our choice is 4G or 5G ( when available)  The 5G will have roughly the same footprint as 4G . At max 20 meg 4 G works for TV streaming until “ rush hour” . Schools in/ out, work finishes, adverts on popular programmes etc etc. Up is 700k so useless for video conferencing.

Spain has a programme to enable everyone to get fast internet. We get HispaSat internet. 100 meg down and 7 meg up for 35 euros a month - Free install. It works great for tv streaming but has a big ping so no good for interactive internet gaming. We are currently waiting for technician to visit to give us a free  speed upgrade.
Our install is a 90 cm dish facing South East , cable to a good quality router

Similar technology to Starlink.  Starlink have offers . Look out for one……..

Nothing like Starlink, totally different tech, HispaSat is Geo tech, Starlink is LEO.

Hence you get horrific latency as the round trip delay can be half a second and with bandwidth levelling up to a second.

LEOs are so much closer that the latency is not that different to cellular

My bad, didn’t know they were different technologies.  You are right about the high latency. You get used to it. Streams HD TV fine for us. Mind you , like Opti, I can only make comparisons with 4G and 3G before that.

I am not convinced 5G would be any better unless they put up a new mast near your house.

Our supply company for Hispasat are coming to do a free upgrade. I am always suspicious of such things. Pointing us to a different satellite? Installing a bigger dish? Changing the router for one I cannot alter the DNS…… we will see.

Funnily enough, I am just about to do a reply to someone on an expat forum who has Hispasat and says it is rubbish and is looking to go to Starlink. I will be interested to see how they get on.

Perhaps thought he was “ entitled” and the rules just applied to the rest of us.

Yep, nice looking car.

It will be interesting to see how you get on with it over time.

What headlights do you have? I am unimpressed withmy bi xenons. I guess LEDs are the go to now.

We have the same problem. Takes two of us to manage the beast. Why isn’t the water connection at the back?
