-
Exactly 250 on equivalent website here in Spain.
Cars are kept going here forever!

Yes, sad times ahead :(

Sad times for you young man. By the time electric cars are the only option I will be brown bread. ;D
Five litre V8 Merc next time for me - hopefully. :)
It is a shame about the demise of Vauxhall though. At least in years to come we will be able to look back on the fact that we were owners of the last decent car they ever made. :y

Yes indeed, the astra is a fine car. ;D

According to honest John the omega is predicted to be one of 10 future classics from the 90s including the Volvo 850 T5R, MGF and Citroen XM.

I was looking at Autotrader yesterday, pondering replacing the Skoda and getting out of the finance early and taking a bit of a bath.. I noticed that most (probably 80-90%) of the E60 5 series were diesel rather than petrol, and given the way things are going I think I'd much rather have a petrol one.. maybe not the 545i though, don't need two cars with weak valve stem seals and "b*stard pipes" through the middle of the Vee that might break and cost me thousands ;D

I do fancy a V8 at some point, miles wise this is my best time to get one, but with 3.2 running so well don't want to change.
I was thinking e39 540i, but they hold a premium. Then I also watched a video on how to change rear shocks. :o :o :o
Drove back yesterday thinking how well 3.2 ticks all my requirements, might even consider B4's all around when shocks need replacing. :o

Great.
I think.
What does future classic actually mean though? XMs have already disappeared from the streets, MGF prices are dropping like a stone(they're at the dangerous point where a halfway decent one is worth pennies as parts and even less as a car) and the T5R are the only big Volvos that are worth anything. Omegas have never had the image to make them anything other than cheap to buy used(used up these days) but still expensive to own.
They're going to be classics in the same way that a Cresta or Vx4/90 is: I haven't seen one of those for ages, but let's look at the Berkeley parked next to it.

Go big or go home, Mark.. BMW M5 twin turbo V8 (F10) or E60 V10 are clearly the only choices for a man about town such as yourself ;)

I think Honest John may simply be deluded.. I mean, give it 10 years and there won't be any MGFs left to be classics! They'll all have been scrapped due to the inevitable K series failure. (And I have a soft spot for them - I still think they're a decent looking car, though I prefer the TF)

I have exactly the same problem. My 3.2 is so nice I really don't want to change it for some time yet. It really is a great car and I know I will regret getting rid of it when the time comes.

Yup same :y
Problem is, once upon a time you could sell a 3.2 and pick another one up at any time you wanted, with a variety of MV6 or Elite ones to choose from. So you could scratch that V8 ich, but now decent ones are hard to come by and need to hold onto decent examples.
-
Citroen XM a classic?
He means Citroen SM, surely.
I'd love one. :y

Mine lasted less than a year before they started leaking. ::)

Two years, 75K for the rears on the daily. starting to mist so a little job to do before the next MOT.
-
This is the problem, very mixed reviews on B4's. Although I'd be annoyed at 2 years, but guess 75k off sets that.
-
Aaron, if it's transport rather than a toy, the 525i is more than competent :y
If you fancy summat alternative, plenty of W124 Mercs around ;)
-

It's actually rot in the sills and subframes that's killing them now. Previous shoddy repairs just make the decision to scrap one easier. Just like an Omega, E39, E-class or any other car that's over the hill and worth nothing.

But but.. POWER! ;) ;D

For me, they are Mercedes from the decade that styling forgot. Though there are two W123's around the corner from me (one LPG'd car in blue, one red convertible) that I think you'd love ;) If they ever have a for sale sign on them...
-
Styling and Mercedes in the same sentence...?..?.. :-\

Yea, but the ones on the UK have got 4 doors, 5 seats and come with a Windscreen. ::) ;D

The fronts have done more (about 100K as fitted to a previous car) but the car is always fairly loaded with kit so the rears are working hard.

.
The Omegas were excellent cars undoubtedly, I changed to a V8 Merc almost 3 years ago a W210 E430 never a popular model but I always liked them , found a real minter with just 30,000 miles from new & full MB history + receipts & all tax discs in a ring binder now getting close to 40,000 miles and hasn't missed a beat .All it has had done since I have had is oil changes at MB & two rear tyres fuel consumption is excellent 32 mpg on a run & always attracts comments on its condition 19 years old in January & has never failed an MOT, and makes me smile every time I drive it, came with original bill of sale just over £55,000 new .

The only bit about that I like is the wheels - I've always liked those wheels for some reason.
I toyed with the idea of one of these in estate trim, though: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/chrysler/300c/chrysler-300c-srt-8/8710534
Looks only a mother could love, but who doesn't want a Hemi?
-
I think the wheels are AMG monoblocs. I really should know as I have a similar set on my 190, albeit in 15 inch form.
To me, Chrysler 300c says very unsuccessful drug deelah. :D
I don't want a hemi. Imo yank engines are shite. Always have been , always will be. Any number of European or Jap V8 engines that are far superior in every way.
Tin hat on. ::) ;D

Because nobody wants them ;D

Yep, when the exhaust fell off a couple of weeks back. :y
One of them is certainly leaking well.

Had an hour or two to kill last night so took a look on the bay for Omegas a few nice looking ones but oh dear when you look at the MOT history , put me right off & some of the prices absolutely laughable.

Yes.. ::) That reminds me. Must tidy up the heap of broken / blunt drill bits from the garage floor before one of them ends up in a tyre.
-
*makes mental note to check garage floor in case any suspicious broken/blunt drill bits suddenly appear*

A nice looking Elite Estate here being broken, scrapped due water leak! What a shame. They only break, as they obviously make more that way, and minimal comebacks. :'(
