Not convinced at this stage that its not the aerial, but its something to try.

I am around tomorrow morning if you want to pop down and try swapping bits out to prove.

bit of a treck mate sorry

ill send this unit back and wait till the other one turns up and see what happens
if its still the same it might be something else
can't see what else it can be
everything works apart from getting satelites so if its not the airel it must be the unit

when the replacement one comes and its still the same ill arrange with you come over
if thats ok :y

WNPC (Willy Nilly Part Changing) is a poor approach to fixing a fault.

That's only when you're paying for the replacements.  It can be the quickest way to get going again if you've got a donor spare (or two).

I think Mutant's in a privileged position! ;)

Totaly disagree.......WNBC adds more unknows and you dont know that the part you are fitting works (even if it might have done when removed from say a donor car)....so you could end up with 2 iffy items in the system!

THE most important thing with fault finding is to locate and prove the fault before chnging anything.

WNBC should be left to the trade (because given the skill level they have thats all they are capable of these days)

part swopping cost's nothing
maybe a bit of fuel or postage and is maybe the cheapest way solve a problem to save going out and buying parts that are not needed

Right, double check that connection in the footwell.  It should say FWD for all gears except R.

no word off tmx now for ages so on friday while ann has the day of work ill be doing the sat nav myself
ive decided i'm going to use the wires at the back of the radio and do it that way
and run an extra wire for the reverse
ive taken my traffic master out but left the wiring loom at the back of the radio in so i will use that to connect to the sat nav
hopefully it will work

easier to pick up from passenger footwell plugs. Much easier.

Also, you may want tm again... ;)

check, double check, tripple check its right.  Then blame either the unit or the gps.  Connections at radio will be no different.

Which one was it not picking up? FWD/REV? Got a speed pulse on it?

ive got a speed pulse but only reverse works
lights are weird
the screen lights up with my lights on but the display say lights off but i think i can change the active levels for that

i cant change the active levels for the forward/reverse
you set active levels for rev and for lights.

Does it always say rev, or does it say FWD when reverse is selected?

Display should DIM when lights switched on.

it says reverse all the time and counts the speed in -

yes display does dim when i set the active levels correct for screen
just cant set active levels for forward/reverse

Right, Nick had my out of the elite to try, works perfectly, so unit must be at fault IMHO.  :y

Problem found then :)

That is the advantage of having stuff to be able to swap and try in these situations
