SatNav Positioning Issue
« on: 08 June 2009, 18:24:04 »

My satnav in the omega seems to think northern ireland is in scotland. im using a 2008 Navteq disc for UK and Ireland on a CD-R...would the CD-R be causing the issue? i know the NCDC dont like CD-R's but im testing just, its been working fine for a few weeks now and its only just started this problem when i got the CID fitted at the weekend (which still needs the trip computer reprogrammed, help there would be good...ie the codes for my particular car and/or where in TechII you can change it!)

I can buy the genuine disc for £67.10 delivered from the Navteq site but before i do id like to work out whats going on!

The sat nav antenna is a seperate connector to the radio antenna and can easily be broken, is the unit sitting fully home in the cage?

Sounds like  a broken connection or faulty GPS antenna

If not seated properly (and it didn`t break when fitting it) then it can often fracture under vibrations (ie driving) The connector is very fragile and easily broken, but the symptoms you describe are absolutely classic of no GPS reception and it is simply driving around using the speed pulse and the gyro.

You should be getting some form of error message if the GPS receiver isn`t working - Somebody will be along shortly to explain what and where you can find that message. The other option is to beg, borrow or steal another GPS aerial, plug it in and see if teh problem resolves before spending out on a new one, although that said, they aren`t expensive - often found on the German ebay sites for a fraction of what they cost here.

ive no error msgs at present, just that the route cannot be calculated.
Do i need the whole aerial or can i just track down a connector?

back to german ebay, thats where the CID came from!

Can you reprogram in your current location at all?

Can you access the test mode, or screen to show signal strength / sattellites received?

Others may be better at guiding you from here (excuse the pun)

if the gps airel breaks down no error codes will come up

go into the main settings on the internal settings i think it is and you can check the status of the airel there

Either would do -

An error code showing a fault would be good, and some form of signal strength or sats received showing NO SATS would also indicate the failure of the antenna
