MOT fail ?
« on: 26 February 2017, 20:04:14 »

Currently, when I switch off the engine on my old 190D it takes no notice and carries on chugging away.
I suspect it needs a new fuel shut off valve, but don't know as yet, how much it will cost and how much MB will charge for one.
MOT runs out Thursday, so I'm wondering if it will be a failure due to this.
I suspect it will, but want to check with peeps who actually know.
Tia. :)

If that's the problem then yes I'd expect a fail, however Mercedes do have good parts availability so all may not be lost

You may want to check availability of parts from mercades in case they need to order them in, VX parts can take 3 days from Germany and you may want time to source parts should mercades have these on back order or you could be waiting ages

Not been on for a while but the above is utter bollux (rather like your silly comments on V6 oil cooler failure).  Mercades, aka Mercedes, have excellent parts support for older models, not like Vx who are rapidly running out of Omega spares.

Remember getting a complete exhaust for a 450SEL (6.9 Lit) over from Germany within 24 hrs a few years back.

Good luck with the MOT Albs ;) :y

You are absolutely right dbug total & utter crap MB pride themselves on their parts availability, when I needed a part for my 190e that was not in stock they sourced it & delivered it to my home address within 24 hours. Some members on here give stupid  comments about vehicles they know nothing about..

Vx have excellent parts source to but, sometimes they have to come from Germany and the dealers don't get such a large discount so they try to avoid.....

I very much doubt its a Merc diesel pump so the shutoff valve is probably a Bosch or similar and easy to source from many places.

Its a vacuum operated valve rather than an electrical solenoid.  ;)
Mark - it is indeed a Bosch pump, so I'm sure the valve will be too. Need to find the part number and then search from there.  :y
Spoke to my MOT man yesterday and he confirmed it wont be an MOT failure, so at least I don't need to panic about it.  :)
