Omega General Help / Re: Autobox Update
« on: 14 November 2015, 19:17:45 »
If you have no 'change' problems with the 'auto box' leave alone, the AR35 is the best of the 'auto's' fitted to the OMEGA, best advise, change the 'fluid' and clean the auto box filter every 80k, this advise is for any 'auto box'. The manufactures do not care as the car's  'guarantee' will of expired on these cars at 75k, however for the second hand owners it is important to do the change, then check the content of 'auto box sump' pieces of 'plastic like' material which can mean that there big problems around the corner. There is great advise available on this site from extremely good mechanical engineers.

Omega General Help / Re: Rubbing noise from steering column
« on: 27 May 2013, 18:16:58 »
I had the very same 'noise' on two of the Omega's I owned, it did appear to come from the steering column, however in both cases the problem turned out to be the 'Traffic Master' unit wires which had become twisted around the 'column',
having come detached from the velcro mounting strap (a very Hi-Tech bracket)
Hope this helps.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Engine Cooling Fans
« on: 25 July 2009, 19:48:52 »
Both the front fans should run at slow speed with 'aircon' on.
Engine fan should only be on when the 'temp' goes over half way on your gauge.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CDC 2 Problem
« on: 13 January 2009, 18:11:04 »
Takes the cd cassette makes a 'click-click-click' sound then 'dead', head unit (CCR800) shows CD-ER, spoke to 'Dave DCD' who suggested a number of actions which proved the head unit was ok(many thanks Dave), just wondered if anyone a) have had a similar problem - and fixed it, or b) has a unit going spare, Vauxhall no - 90 493 268, Blaupunkt no - 7 607 776 320, must be the same numbers.

Had the same problem on my last two Elite's, take off door trim, check electric's, soak the unit in WD40 and work the plunger in & out, they worked fine afterwards. Vauxhall dealer charge £100 plus vat for fitting a new unit (3 year old price before I used WD40 method).

My '98 Elite had the same problem, this got it sorted. Take off the door card, peel back the plastic from the lock edge of the door, you can see the vertical steel contector at the edge of the door which goes into a ribbed rubber cover on top of the soleniod, pull the cover off and use plenty of WD40, replace rubber cover. Don't switch the ignition on to test until the plastic is well suck back. I found the central locking on that door became better with use.
