Now don't get me wrong ... I love my barge, but at the end of the day, sometime it will let me down, badly, just like any other car would, and it will have to be gotten rid of, and another will take it place.

Must Agree with everone else, I first drove an Omega in 1995 and loved driving it straight away then luckly in 1996 I got a 3.0 V6 Full Police Spec as a company car for 3 years and did about 120,000 miles in it and then when it was replaced by a Rover 75 V6 it wasn't the same,so I went out and bought a 3.0 V6 Omega Elite in Star Silver and 7 years later I still love it and can't see me getting rid of any time soon

Every door has some kind of rust spot the worst being a 10p sized scab on the bottom half of the driver's! I know it's a 99 car but I would have expected better.

24/7 alright. 12 hour shifts. But not IT.

pre-facelift models appear to have a bit of a rust problem, especially at the tops of the doors - but I've offloaded mine now

the facelift model seems to be a lot better, haven't noticed any rust on that at all ... yet

It's OK... does what I bought it for which is pounding up and down motorways as my luxobarge commuter. Handles well for such a big car, and is fully loaded with all the toys.

However, I have to be honest, it's a bit of a slug (disappointing for a 3.0 manual), gearing is far too high for such a peaky engine, it rusts like no other car I've ever owned, the door check straps are notorious for breaking (never heard of this on any other car), and it's generally not a particularly nice drive around town at lower speeds for various reasons.

It's a lot of car for the money, but if not for the depreciation being so savage therefore cheap, I wouldn't have one.

I'll elaborate a little about the town driving thing. Gearing is too high, so even at full pelt you're doing 30 before it starts to properly shift, not much good driving in 30/40 limits trying to get out of a busy junction. Auto would be worse - manual has stupidly high gearing, auto has insanely high gearing!

Sometimes misfires under load, most likely due to the sh1tty plug leads breaking down (these will be replaced soon). This is a total pain in the ass, cos just when you need power is when it's most likely to splutter. Thankfully it can be temporarily cured by dropping the clutch to remove the load a little while still propelling the car forward - doesn't do the clutch much good, but it's better than someone running into the back of you as you splutter along with sod-all power!

When it's cold the ECU thinks it's a good idea to hold the idle around 2,000 RPM. Fine - except it doesn't seem to make any difference that the car is in gear and you're braking coming up to a junction, hence the car trying to accelerate with the gas pedal completely closed. Again cured by dropping the clutch so the ECU can feel chuffed with itself and get the revs back to 2,000 but break me what a PITA, no other car seems to be so damn anal (my 840Ci idles about 900 RPM when cold). Fine when it warms up though, idles at the proper 600 or so.

I should add on an unrelated point, the exhaust that's on the car is damn noisy between 1500-2500 RPM, it's not rusted or anything just cheap sh1te I suspect. At least with a manual I can just about drive around it by revving to 4000 RPM in 2nd then going into 5th which keeps it below the dreaded drone, I think if it were an auto and I was forced to listen to that drone I'd have driven off a cliff by now

. There should be laws against people fitting such lumps of sh1te of an exhaust, with maybe an exception for Novas and Saxos which is the only place they should be - sh1tty exhausts for sh1tty chavvied-up cars

Your idle doesn't seem right. From cold, mine is about 1500 rpm but for no more than 20s or so, but which time its dropped to under 1000. After a couple of mins, its down to its normal 600rpm.

Certainly sounds like your HT leads are crap (hope it ain't the DIS).

People buy shite exhausts thinking that an exhaust is an exhaust, and feel smug that they have saved a few quid. Muppetts.

Paul M, I think you simply happen to have bad one.... I ran a 2.5 auto for three years, and now running a 2.6 suto for five years, and the cars are generally smooth reving and trouble free... They are not very sporty but to my taste feel reasobanly torquey and the driving is quite relaxed. Try driving a mate's car if you know anyone else with a meega, and then compare notes...

Senator's were longer overall. Same gear box (so I assume same ratios) but my Omega is 'only' doing 85ish at 3000rpm. My 24v Senator was doing 90ish at 3000rpm (AutoCar of the day quoted 29mph/1000rpm)

Love the car but have to agree on the problems with rust. Got a few bits of the damn stuff popping up on my doors

Haven't voted as I am undecided at the moment what to choose

Love the car when its running right, hate the thing and just want it crushed when it all goes wrong.

Running fine at the moment biggest problem as mentioned is the rust but slowly getting it sorted
