auto box fluid level
« on: 08 April 2011, 12:08:32 »

As it is a nice day i thought i would check the atf level on the old girl, so following the instructions in the maintenance guide to the letter i started and found that when i removed the level plug atf fluid ran out, this was with the car jacked up, so i lowered the car off the jack let it drain some more about half a liter in all then refitted the plug, would being overfull of atf done any harm inside the box.

Did you check the level with the engine idling throughout the procedure, and take it for a drive first to warm the fluid up?

If not, it is probably underfilled now.

If you did,. it might indicate that the fluid is past its' best, as it tends to expand when it is tired.
