House purchased in 1978 with a £12,000 "low cost" endowment over 25 years. Increased over time due to several extensions, to a total of £38,000 but the "final date" not changed. Paid off in 2003 with the total of the 4 endowments being £54,000 ... a "profit" of £16,000 .... but I know I paid an awful lot of interest in those 25 years, especially given the way the interest rates went in 1978 !

Still live in the same house ........  :)

For the purposes of my post, I didn't even look at the figures.

Having said that, the total number of cases, recovered and deaths relative to total population for the UK are 4.7%; 2.05%; 0.125% respectively.

Even if you only count active cases the potential mortality rate is 5%.

At 90% efficacy, this drops to 0.45%.

Like I said, I will gladly take any of those odds.

Ahh ... more from the D Trump School of obfuscation ...

rule 1 :  make up a random fact and state it is true ......  (I didn't even look at the figures.)

rule 2 :  ensure random fact is not actually part of original argument  ... (relative to total population)

rule 3 :  incorporate original question into a misleading argument to support your agenda ... (if you only count active cases the potential mortality)

rule 4 :  throw out more random but untrue facts ....  (At 90% efficacy, this drops to 0.45%.  ...  [(100%-90%) of 5% is NOT 0.45% !!] )

Note : the subject matter WAS the claim that the mortality rate is 0.1%.... nothing else ... now proven to be totally untrue .. but IAW Trump dictact .. never admit to being wrong about anything ......

so if 2.7% died pre vaccine programs
vaccine may be 90% effective perhaps
is it roughly  10% of 2.7% (0.27%) will still die  ? (excluding other factors, like better treatments, daft covid death calculation based on test/28 days )
my maths isn't great ,I only calculate in bricks, slabs and planks  :P

You can look at it like that, but they are actually hoping for better, as the vaccine has an effect that even if you still catch covid-19 after vaccination, it would appear that you will, probably, be less seriously ill.

The honest answer is that no-one actually knows, and won't know, until a huge number of folks have been vaccinated, then the weeks pass that allow the vaccine to work in your body, then we see what the rates of infection, transmission, and, unfortunately, death level out at... only then will we know the real effect.

At the moment the purpose of the vaccination programme is NOT to stop the majority from catching covid-19, but to try and try and stop those most at risk from dying doing just that..... hence the over 80's being no 1 priority.

All these "special interest" idiots demanding "priority" are totally missing the point ... deliberately I feel.....

Then..you can break down the figures even further to show the mortality rate for different age groups. I reckon it would be much higher for someone like me, in my late sixties. 2.7 in every hundred is scary enough, I don't think I want to know about my age group.

Information available here .. xls spreadsheet with age group breakdowns ... if you are worried about 65-70 .. don't even look at over 80's.....

Where DG is falling down is that he is counting deaths per million of the population. But, of course, that is incorrect when calculating the mortality rate. The percentage of deaths of people who have actually caught the virus, as above, is correct. I believe the figure is nearer 2.7% in the UK.

yup ... edited the figures for you...

I'll take 90% against a virus with a sub 0.1% mortality rate  ;)

I actually thought you were capable of simple maths .....   but obviously not ...

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/

21:58 GMT on 13 January 2021

Worldwide:

just over 92 million cases

slightly under 2 million deaths ....

now I make that a mortality rate of 2/92 or 1 in 46 .....   2.17 % ..... not a lot different to yours ..  if you can't understand maths that is .... but if you do understand maths ........

UK

83,342 deaths

3,173,291 cases

thats 2.626 % mortality ........

If the Government are going to pay peoples wages regardless of whether or not they work, why will anyone want to go to work, unless they earn a really high salary.
So the next question is, where will the money come from to pay all the wages if hardly anyone bothers going to work ?
Someone hasnt thought this through.  ::)

Where have you been these last few years ?? Everyone knows you simply go and pick it from the "Money Tree" which, magically, grows more money overnight ....... (page 1092 labour party manifesto)

A little research has easily shown that the figures quoted by DG are actually the result of the debate to try and force the vice-president to invoke Article 25 of the Constitution to remove the President ..

They have absolutely NOTHING to do with the action to impeach him .... as that has not yet been debated or voted on.

Apples and oranges .... but never let the truth get in the way of a good confabulation ......    :)

Has voting actually taken place yet?

Nope .. not due until later today ... so where DG gets his fictitious figures from is anyones guess .......

the House does not re-convene until 14.00 GMT (its now 12:28), then the debates, then the first vote is expected at  17:00 GMT, followed by two hours of further debate and votes ....

I hope so ;)

Meanwhile, in other news, they've finished 452 miles of the 800 mile Mexico border, most of which was repairing the old wall, and not a lot on the rest of the circa 2000 mile southern border. Which is nice 8)

Loads of money for the contractors pulling it back down again.  ::)

fixed that for you ....

Tank is not "difficult" to remove... more "fiddley" and "awkward" ... usually only held in by the 4 bolts holding the frame down, but they are a tad awkward to reach, and the frame only "just" fits so its all a tad tight.

Main problem I had with mine .. it was 3/4 full and a) it's illegal (and dangerous) to simply vent it ... b) makes it bloody heavy !!  Ended up borrowing an emgine hoist to lift it out with ... putting an empty one back in was, comparitively, simple .......  however I had no time constraints and it was on my drive .. not quite the same as you !!

They definitely need to cut Donald's Twitter off, that would make his eyes water.

Trump is obviously going to piss a lot of people off. He is deluded and he is mentally unstable.

This said, he is still the sitting POTUS for another couple of weeks, and to cut him off like this is disrespectful.

I thought Twitter and Facebook where supposed to allow free speech regardless of who it offends. Instead they are playing God.

If they had stamped down on him earlier he may not have thought he could break all their rules regardless.

With freedom comes responsibility, Trump has shown he has none, he therefore forfeits his self-proclaimed "rights"

My point is I have no idea who 'exactly they are'......I suppose it comes down to one unknown person in the end. One person who has total control over what the POTUS  thinks and writes. I think this is a concern.

Nope, not just one person ... a whole raft of them .... and a little research would find the truth easily ....

Time to stop the experiment.  Hand all guns in at the same time.
You do understand that the only shooting was done by the police ???

Arguably justified, however tragic.

If they had wanted to storm it and stage some sort of coup, they could easily have done so. What took place was the epitome of a peaceful protest and, whilst completely and utterly inappropriate, amounted to little more than the occupattion of a publicly funded building by some of the people who pay for it...

Had they been BLM or Greenpeace there would have been less outrage and more damage. You'll note that apart from a couple of doors and windows, the building wasn't trashed or burned and the crowd was largely compliant.  :-X

dream world still ... one day you might actually face, understand, and accept... the actual truth not your own delusions ...
Photos show damage inside the ransacked Capitol
If you want to get a sense of some of the physical damage that rioters caused when they broke into Congress, have a look at this video from a CNN reporter of the inside of a senate official's office.
