Charging wire from altinator to the battery. Took battery off and used a meter and getting 2.64 resistance just from the wires from both ends. Getting battery light flicker but voltage at battery with engine running is 14.2 and at altinator it's 14.8. 13.1 from wire to dash. :-\ cannot find any hot spots on wire can see. But I've had to change come wiring as its gone oxidised ie black. Was thinking does it need changing ?

Rather than guessing, follow Kevin Woods charging guide and replace the battery or alternator based on the results :y

..and check where the wire from the alternator / starter is crimped into the battery connector. These frequently come loose and cause problems. :y

I will check that out. :y

could not find a weak connector so cut the shield on a bit of the wire, and looks like will have to replace this did a few cut to be sure but the wire is oxidised and gone black and brittle. so will have to do the starter wire a well as it there before something starts going wrong with that. :(

Have you run tests as per the guide ::)

yes read guide. wiggling the wire improves the resistance gets closer to 0 or 0.8.(no battery on) but the wire is 20 odd years old. alternator 6 months old, tests fine. battery holds charge at 12.7, load test with starter motor 11v. put a temp wire on for time being till new wires comes tomorrow. no flicker on the battery light on dash and steady voltage drop not fast one that its been doing on load. heater fan on full and all lights holding at 13.8 13.7. before was moving all over the place from 12.8 to 13.5. dash disco when indicating. not doing that now with temp wire. i will fix new wire/s in when they come.
