Cheap Tech2 connection problems
« on: 10 October 2006, 03:38:36 »

Hi,
First of all Big Hello to everybody.
I have a cheap Tech2 tool that works well using my PC, however I cant get it to connect using a laptop with a USB to serial converter.
Has anybody got it to work using one of those USB to serial converters? and if so could I please have the details so I can get one.
Thank you

To put it in a nutshell....the USB to serial converters are pretty rubbish........I also can not get it to work via one of these.

I got it to work when I borrowed Markjays cheapo tech2 on my 2.0Ghz P4 Tosh laptop via a 'Prolithic' USB - Serial adapter.  Ensure it is set to COM1 - despite what software implies, it can only do com1...

However, it would seem you need a mega powerful laptop - 2Ghz P4M is about the most powerful laptop chip (some laptops use desktop chips for more power), and you could see it was struggling...
