Look's better than my K reg Astra, alot less rust :) Nice looking car for the year,
Any plans on doing it up or just going to enjoy driving it.

I used to love these but I always found them in white up me arse with these funny flashing lights on the front grill :-[
But they where a great car this one looks nice but please shoot that tin worm on the arches before it eats the car :'(

Yes, I reckon he has. Got some rust on it that really needs treating if he's gonna keep it beyond euro trip.

try replacing the blown engine mount before the second oil and filter!!! ;D

I am GREEN with envy - this is the sort of car that I lusted after in my Senator Brochure.
What I really like is the digital dash along with the overall condition of the car of course. Boot could do with a bit of a clean out though! ;D
What REALLY does it for me though, and most people will probably think me quite sad, is the full length "wood effect" trims on the doors. Just like the ones in my Cavalier. I think that the Omega trims are quite a poor effort.
I wish you every luck with your trip around Europe and may you enjoy ever single mile - you certainly have a mile muncher there!

Looks cracking motor. :y How does it compare with the Omega for ride, handling, space?. I am wondering if in designing the Omega they took the basic floorpan/suspension and made it better or cheaper?. :)

Its unfair to compare the older Senator to newer Omega. But...
Interior space is similar, but ride and handling aren't up to Omega. Still very comfortable though...

I beg to differ.!
interior space is on the senator is larger... especially with regards to rear seat leg room ... Senator B was "well endowed" to say the least... I'm 6'2 with long legs... and i did NOT need the seat all the way back...
but I Do in the Meega.
and even when the Sennie seat was all the way back... the kids had more leg room left than the do in the meega.
although i'd concede that the ride in the meega is PERHAPS marginally better for some, I personally feel the Senator handles better, especially "on the limit" where I find the Omega much more twitchy...
overall, I would not consider the Omega a massive improvement on the senator...... probably quite the opposite... it was a step down...

Well, the Omega replaced Both the Carlton and Senator.
I WOULD agree that the meega is an improvement on the Carlton... not massively perhaps... but definitely nontheless.
however the Senator was hugely superior to the Carlton... and to some extent remains so with the Omega.,
IMHO Vx/opel never made a proper replacement for the Senator.....

Just noticed Tunnie the radio looks to be the same as what was in my Omega when i first got it, do the buttons on the panel work ok as mine were crap so added another radio and left the changer in the boot for now. :) all the same it looks like a good buy.

Still got original head unit and cd changer in the boot, not sure whether to get a replacement one or pay £20 to get the car pass... it has a tape slot up front so i can use an adaptor and swap it between iPod / Sat Nav.
Senator Vs Omega? Well its like Senator vs Carlton really... tbh.
Power? Well thats unfair my regular drive is not a 3.0 V6... however with some basic checks and replace some fluids i reckon it would be faster. 80 mph ticks over at about 2.8 rpm :D
Off the line its quick, but were is most impressive is 30 to xxx mph :-X
Ride and handling? Well it goes around corners better thanks to the electrically adjustable air suspension, put it in sport mode and corners like a dream. Bit of a boat in comfort, but nice for motorways.
I find the Senator slightly more comfy, it does not absorb the bumps quite as well but it is 15 years old. Wind noise is louder too, but this is only noticed at 80/90+ really.
But my god do i love the sound it makes! :D

Try a manual MV6, I haven't driven an Elite but I expect the MV6 will be noticably more controllable and fun through the twisties as the stiffer suspension and better control of the manual box really make a difference at the limit.

If i want Elite suspension i put it on comfort mode, if i want an MV6 suspension i put it on Sport! ;)
I loved driving it at the weekend, a 300 quid car that can do 150mph... if i chip, it can crack 170 :D

I only did a half arsed clean (student remember :D)
The boot has a few bits that needs sorting, has a sill cover for the drivers side. The clips have broken need to get them from the scrappy, also got a replacement water pump on there (cheers Graham :y)
It needs another good clean really, it was just too cold last weekend.
Got some deadlines this week at uni, looking forward to going back at the weekend to tinker on it :)

Don't get me wrong guys, i've had a long time love affair with my Senator and have no regrets in buying the Omega

I'd have another, lovely engine that straight 6 to tinker on for day to day jobs. Still had a bit of something the Omega's lacked, perhaps the character of that dual ram 4k surge.
If I lost the 3.2 for what ever reason, I would scan the classic ads to see if another was reasonable enough. :)

After removing the rose tinted specs, however, how many of them made the 225k trouble free miles that my 3.2 is now on, without cam chain issues and so on?

lol had 3 with over 200 on and my daily had a spare dash board solely for mot time lol, commute was 65miles each way,never took much notice of the actual mileage, as the engines were bullet proof to be honest, (there were not many that blew camchains), :yand still drove really well,didnt mean to cause further arguements when i dragged this from the archives, but it seems to have revived a ot of good memories for all posters!

Because the Omega already has close to the ultimate in instruments: black dials with clear white numerals. They need the military traintrack to become the ultimate. Traditional Smiths instruments have never been bettered

Mine & Tunnies were of the age that the analogue dash was standard fit, so at least two people preferred the digi dash enough to order it :y

Exactly, its definitely a 1980s statement. I had a digidash in my 1990 Astra, and even as a single geeky lad, though it was a bit dated. I was really glad to get back to proper instruments when the Astra's insurance jumped to over £3k, and it had to go.

One of the few cars I've actually regretted selling was my first Senator B-the second one I had was written off in an accident[not my fault]in Norfolk-I'd be rid of my Omega in exchange for a Senator in a heartbeat-and Both mine were only the 12V versions!

12 valve & 24 valve cars were like chalk & cheese ..... I had one of each. :)

Never had a 24V to compare but as you say it was a different car with the extra valves[so I'm told by all that had one]the 12V though was so simple to work on-plug changes etc.-and the advantage of a twin row timing chain which I understand was changed to a single row chain on the 24V engine.

A mate of mine had a Maestro Vanden Plas with the talking digi dash. 8)
Every so often the speed would go awol and creep up to 188 MPH. This was "unlikely" in that car.
it would also pipe up at random, telling you your fuel was low 100 yds up the road from filling up and so on.
Sadly the only time it was right was when it warned that the "brakes require attention" of course, it was ignored, and it suffered a complete brake failure a couple of days later. ;D

Failed my first driving test in a Maestro... The instructor had retrofitted power steering to it giving it maximum assistance regardless of speed and so utterly devoid of feedback and stability that it could have made a psychopath seem sensitive :D

SD1's were predictable though, in the same way an Omega with the TC disabled is - RWD with a decent front to rear weight ratio. SD1 feels much better when it has an aftermarket steering wheel though!!
