I;m having trouble finding the two rear side trim pieces that sit just above the bumper and wrap round to the tailgate on my estate (mine are both damaged)
Do you think using a spray can i could get a reasonable finish over blue ones ive found on ebay?

Do you think using a spray can i could get a reasonable finish over blue ones ive found on ebay?
you'd need to sand to key ,prime with correct primer before top coat, wet sand and lacquer
then probably t-cut ,mop,polish the rest of the car
there is paint and paint ,and some rattle cans provide a shyte match ,so maybe worth getting a recommendation of a good paint supplier

You don't wet sand between the top coat and laquer if metallic!!!

how do you get the fly and spider legs out the paint then ;D

They're already painted, so I wouldn't bother with the primer. Fine scotchbrite(grey I think), 3 or 4 fine coats of colour and a then couple of clear as soon as the colour is touch dry. The fine coats of paint are the route to a good finish. You do NOT flat the colour before the clear. That's always worked for me on mirror cases(including colour changes) and other trim parts. The parts mentioned are a size that rattle cans are suitable for.

Ive always found silver difficult to match, but I still think its worth a try. Gramic supplies* in Colchester will mix up aerosols to your colour code, which gives you a much better chance of good results than the generic shite you get from places like Halfords.
Patience is the key when doing paintwork, which is why I often have problems with it. ;D
* May be a similar place nearer to you ?

I have found that the genuine Vauxhall Star Silver aerosol a very good match with the original. It does depend to a degree how it is sprayed as the shade can vary depending on how the paint lands on the prepared surface. Unlike a solid colour, metallics can vary in appearance depending on conditions when applied unless you are an 'expert', and they can get it wrong too.
