Essex Big Al did mine a while ago and it involved lifting the engine slightly off the offside mount to gain access to the alternator fixings, but otherwise fairly straightforward - PM him, he is very helpful and will point out any other snags.  :y

Ron.

P.S. Sorry for volunteering you, Al, but I knew you wouldn't mind!

Only two bolts... top one is long, and rear nut is a bit of a faff to get at, bottom bolt shorter and easier (might be other way around, :-\ but been a while since I changed one.). Both 16mm iirc.

Disconnect the battery and undo the connections when they become accessible. Takes about 30mins to remove and refit, and all done from above :y

When I did mine I
- took the bagpipes out
- took the auxiliary belt off
- removed the auxiliary belt tensioner
- undid the two alternator bolts

then I was able to ease the alternator forward and undo the electrical cables on the back of the alternator.

With the bagpipes out there is enough space to lift the alternator out.
Assembly is the reverse of disassembly...........

I know that it should be obvious, but it is worth emphasising - disconnect the battery negative connector FIRST!  :y

you ought to  have done some proper diagnosis with a multi-meter before replacing the battery. 'Just' fitting another alternator would be compounding that mistake. You should be certain of the actual fault before you swap ANY  parts. This is especially true of electrical problems.
