Itchy feet.
« on: 14 July 2006, 13:55:00 »

Am I the only one who gets over excited at the prospect of buying a new car?

I'm picking up our new 2.5 Elite estate tonight at around 5 and I'm itching to get there.

It's only three hours away, but I can't wait!!

Can't be bothered  ::) doing any work!!!

Depends on the car.  I was in no hurry to pick up Mrs TheBoy's last company car - a Focus  :(

Nah...you're not alone. I was so excited when I went to pick up my Meega I took a whole day off work so I could spend all day driving it around 8-)

yes i am the same.

21 cars in the last 18 months - auction buys to sell on, or restore.

I always get excited walking to the car to pick it up and drive it first time.

Always get a buzz getting under the bonnet first time too ( shouldnt touch the battery with a torque wrench whilst its running then!!)

outsiders or wifes would call us obsessed  ::)

Well, yeah, I now have a small fleet of Omegas!!! I'll try and get some pic's done this weekend.

As it stands.........

2.0 16v CD Saloon. (S2N buggy)
2.5 V6 Elite Estate. (SWMBO's wagon)
3.2 V6 MV6 Estate. (The Daddy!)
3.0 24v Carlton GSI. (Rustiest car I've ever seen and I have no idea what to do with it!! I can't even give it away!!)

The new car's great actually. Other than being a little sedate compared to the 3.2, it's deceptively quick!! Was thinking it was a bit sluggish going up an incline on the way home in an NSL zone and it turned out I was doing 85!!  ::)

I have to say it has the most remarkable history of any car I've ever bought. It has all the boxes ticked. It had £1300 spent on it in January. DIS packs, plugs, leads, rocker cover gaskets, the list goes on and on!! Most important is the cambelt and tensioner change 10k ago!!

The only annoying thing is, it smells a bit 'doggy'. Anyone any ideas on getting rid of dog odour?

I did have a disagreement about the trade in I had though. The salesman didn't realise it was as bad as it was and tried to back out of the deal!! I was very persuasive and pulled it off.

Frankly I would've happily burned the Mondeo I traded and just bought the Omega outright, but couldn't be bothered with the hassle!! Don't tell the salesman that though!!  :o

Sounds like Finlay has got some competition in the 'how many cars on the driveway (or road) stakes' with Big Rod here.....

I'm just doing it as a hobby though. (Oh yeah, that and I need to be able to get to work every day too!!)

I got a bit of a reputation a little while ago for 'taking in' recalcitrant Senators.

I find that if you don't drive currently manufactured cars, you can afford to have a spare one or two lying around should the worst happen.

There is a down side though. I had a 2.0 Carlton estate, that I built out of two cars, for three years. I wanted it to break so I had an excuse to buy another car, but do you think it would?!?!?!? Nope!! Nothing I did would kill it. Ran it with no oil, no coolant and drove it up and down the country like a yo-yo for three years. All I wanted was a new car!! But I had no excuse!!

Ended up selling it to a bloke from the east end of London for £75!!  ::)

Am I making sense or do I have sunsrtoke or am I just pissed?!??!?!!?!?  :-/

Oh, and 'tain't the worst I've been either. Me and the wife, "SWMBO", had eight cars between us at one point not so very long ago!!!

I'll spare you the boredom of listing them!!!
