RallyGB
« on: 15 September 2012, 19:18:07 »

Yesterday I got to spend day in the cold, wet and windy welsh forest, all in the name of 'work' :)  Definitely beats sitting at the old desk!

And yes, that is a bentley on a rally stage!  (And James May was sat in the passenger seat - Kris Meeke driving, and he wasn't exactly holding back over the watersplashes or jumps).

Nice photos.

Brought back very fond memories of when the RAC rally was a round Britain affair and the co drivers actually drove.

Henri Toivonen, Hannu Mikkola, Freddy Kottylinski, Stig Blomgvist, Ari Vatanen and Roger Clark of course. :y

I can actually remember the Gulf London.......

I managed to wangle a paddock pass at the Safari Rally in Kenya a few years ago and we got to wander around and watch the mechanics at work in the 'garages'  :)  The difference between the well resourced, slick manufacturer teams and the local privateers was astounding!!  :o

It was an awesome day and as mentioned it's a sadly diminished sport...  :'(

Excellent photo's Jester!! Glad you enjoyed it!!  :y :y :y

I should think he was thinking " FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFlippin' 'eck - are you nut's man?!"

I was - and I was only watching from the sidelines :)

Kris Meeke has a way of throwing cars around - can't believe Mini dropped his seat last year.

I'm just watching Saturdays stages on Motors TV as I sit here .
I have to say I just can't get excited at the current crop of cars ,they all look the same ,technically brilliant but indistinguisable from each other .  :(
Even the TV coverage is tedious showing in car all the time and then the finish for the repetative 8 second interview.
You have to be there to get the sounds and smell .........
I was going to say bring back the 70-80's but even the late 90's and early 00's saw a great selection of cars and drivers with character and panache .
Ooooo , I'm getting old ........... :-\
