Firing Order (2.5 V6)
« on: 12 October 2008, 14:05:01 »

Just done the cam covers - fingers crossed it's good when I turn the key in the morning.

I took the opportunity to change the leads at the same time, and I marked them up as I went, but I'm still not convinced I've got it right (the marks I made weren't really very good  :-[)

Could somone tell me, looking from th front of the engine back towards the DIS pack, what lead connects to which cylinder?

Simple diagram like

DIS
2 6 4
5 3 1

Cylinders
6 5
4 3
2 1

I really want to be 100% before putting everything back together.

Cool - I get the diagram, but which cylinder is which?

Just found one of the black o-rings that sit between the plenum and the inlet manifold on the ground next to where I was cleaning things.

Whole plenum has to come off again.   :'( :'(

6 5
4 3
2 1

According to Mr Haynes No 1 is 'front right' which going off all other right & left hand references is when you're sat behind the wheel.
That makes your cylinders 4r$e about t1t ie 1, 3 & 5 are on the left hand side as you're standing infront of your car.
As for the DIS pack my 99 3.0 is connected up:

4   6   2   i
              g
1   3   5  n

i think thats incorrect andy, i believed it to be that cylinder 1 was the front right from the front of the car- i could however be wrong so sorry if it turns out im in the wrong

Well, been out and it's coughing and spluttering something rotten, so I guess the firing orders wrong.  Presume the fuel system pressurises itself quite quickly?

Cheers - I even noticed that on the cam cover, didn't add 2 + 2.

Might be late for work in the morning.

Yes, I think it is agood idea to do a complete check on all work done, connections made, torque settings, etc, in the daylight when you are all fresh. ;) :y

Yup - the feeling of getting a job right is second to none.  Getting it wrong, well - gutting really.  Had a great day though, up till that point.  Fiddled on in the sunshine, sat on the wall cleaning all the bits with a big tub to catch the cud.

Should be a lot quicker getting the plenum off now I know what to undo.  Just wondering if that wiring tray has to come off again to get at the leads (that was probably the most fiddly bit doing the covers)?

Timbuk's diagram is spot on!  Andy where can I get the Vauxhall College CD?  I've got various bit of info from it previously but the whole thing would be ideal!

That's exactly what I was after!

This should be moved to the 'Technical Documents' section.  Would have been spot on at about 3pm this afternoon.   :y :y
