I've got a '98 Elite with Bose in and a '99 CDX with a crappy Kenwood non-factory CD player.  What's needed to move the system from one to the other?

I'm thinking:

Head Unit - plug and play?  Hoping that the wiring hasn't been butchered behind the dash...  or at least not too much.
Amp - does that sit under the parcel shelf?  Haven't looked yet.
Rear shelf, complete - may as well take the whole shelf from one to the other - same colour.
Speakers in the front and rear doors
What about the tweeters near the mirrors - do they need to come too?
CD Changer (Blaupunkt original) from the '98.
Wiring loom appears to be there in the '99 for the CD changer.

What wiring's likely to exist in the car already for the speakers on the shelf?

All words of advise appreciated

I think you'll have to replace all the speakers too because the Bose ones are 2 ohm IIRCC :-/ :-/

Rear speakers in parcel shelf is all you missed out...

Main thing is gonna be the wiring behind the dash really as to how easy or hard it is...

You will need to change the speakers in the doors, fit the speakers on the rear shelf.

Also you will need the wiring loom which goes from the front of the car to the amp which is under the rear shelf.

Depends on what stereo came out of CDX - if it was a CCRT700, the loom is a bit different.

What MID has the CDX got?

Same as the Elite.  At the moment instead of getting the radio station on the middle readout I permanently get the date.

What is last letter of cdx's vin? W or X?

So, it's about 17 digits long, and ends in a number, but about the 10th digit is an 'X'.

Whassat mean? :-?

OK 1999 model then .  But I thought all 1999 CDXs have a CCRT700 (with its associated half height display)  :-/

Well maybe I could transfer the MID from the Elite to the CDX too?  Tech 2 job I guess but, possible?

They look the same.  Just worried about what a job was done by the 17yr old who fitted the crappy kenwood headunit.  It's awful - but I did get a free CD with it

CCRT700 display is very different from the full height MID.

If both cars had full height MID, the swap over to CCR800 from (presuambly) CCR600 is relatively straightforward, and I've done it mayself on the MV6.

in putting a Bose system into your omega, would you need a specific bose MID unit or will the normal one do?

I am looking at perhaps buying a bose setup from a 98 elite, and wondered if it will fit in my 96 CDX ok, or will mods need to be made?

I can knock out the hole cover plates on the shelf, but will the shelf itself have holes or will I need to cut them out of the top cover?

Also, other than sound quality is there any difference to the bose head units in terms of function?

I bought a bose to put in my 97 elite. The head unit swaps in fine but lower output. Cd end of loom is different. I figure the easiest way is to put amp in knackered glove box, cannablize existing  spkr wiring, run leads from amp to extra boot spkrs. However this project is low on the food chain . Hot running prob & life in general.

CCRT700 is a mini nightmare to install tbh the wires for the amp are 10 pairs 4x i/p 4/x o/p + 3 standard electrical feeds

ccrt 700 has a can controlled cdc and this is wired slightly differently
and the ccrt mid is also can controlled and is wired differently so wires need to be changed in the grey mid connector

btw i got my ccrt mid from a 2.5 T reg CDX   £15 though and if you change the MID it needs to be reprogramed

ccr 800 will plug straight in, to replace sc804. Press keypad to change display settings.
I agree about the wiring nightmare.
I think the simplest is to take the l/s o/p from the back of the head to the amp in glovebox then back to the old loom.
4 new wires for bass spkrs & 3 feeds for power.
Not done it yet & may never.
