Rear arch repair advice.
« on: 20 February 2020, 12:36:22 »

Have parked up Omega a few years ago and have not been on forum as a result. My dad has taken ownership and is going to tidy Mig up and drive it occasionally going forward. With this in mind, the rear arches are very crusty. Inner lip has disintegrated since I parked it up. Am looking for advice on best way to approach repair. Are there repair sections available or is replacing complete rear quarters the way to go.

Thanks in advance,

James.

Making arch repair panels takes about 30 minutes, and a couple of pounds worth of sheet steel. You could buy repair panels which went right up to the bodyline, but you would trim it down as necessary to repair the damage. Either is doable with basic DIY equipment and techniques.

Replacing an entire quarter panel - if you could find/afford one - is a major undertaking with all of the costs that entails.

Also worth checking the entire car over first BEFORE doing anything about the arch rust
and structural rust to chassis rails etc and it may not be financially viable  :y

Thanks for replies chaps. Car is solid besides. There is no urgency with this as is dry stored until I get to it.
@Nick W Do you have a link to repair panel supplier?

Cheers,

J.

The quarters were rare in 2009 when I replaced one of mine. Not such a big job on the estate as the whole quarter requires alot less finishing than blending a patch.

Saloons are a different ball game as you may have to remove the rear screen.

£1,100 to replace osr quarter, tailgate and rear bumper. Panels were new old stock, so total parts cost was about £400.

Got mine on ebay six months ago, body shop said the quality was good when I dropped them off, still being sold  by that UK seller. But there are panels from ATP Germany and another seller from Lithuania as well.
