Omega General Help / Re: Opel omega (2000) 2.2 performance chip?
« on: 23 November 2020, 18:32:23 »
I'm not aware of any performance chips for that engine.  If any were available, it wouldn't be a "chip" but a reflash.

On a NA engine, off the shelf maps rarely produce much (probably around 5% tops for the very best), despite the claims otherwise, so probably barely noticable.  To get useful gains, you need to find a proper tuner who will tweak the map on a rolling road.

Plug in boxes to fool the ECU into overfuelling do somewhere between SFA and kanckering the cat, again no matter what they promise.

What He says /\   :y

With a proper Remap (ECU Flash) you're not going to get much change out of 2 or 300 quid, and if I'm honest, you're unlikely to see any noticeable improvements on a 2L non-turbo engine without some other serious modifications in place.  :(

General Car Chat / Re: LPG at Shell Forecourts (Autogas)
« on: 23 November 2020, 18:15:45 »
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or my expectations of LPG being around about the same period as petrol and diesel before we're all forced down the electric route was an oversight. As we know, LPG is a by-product of oil, so as long as there's sucking oil up for petrol and diesel use there will be plenty of LPG, Propane and Butane kicking around, in fact there be so much of All of the stuff floating around they won't be able to give it away in a few years time. Is it really down for market demand at the moment?

According to Shell, the decision to pull the plug was down to cost of maintenance of the pumps vs market demand, or have they just got their pumps in the wrong places and not been looking at the trends over the years, all I know is around here or if I venture into East London for Fill Ups I am almost certainly queuing for my turn for the LPG pump.

Morrisons worry me, as most of their pumps are quite old and always breaking down or going out service, so they could be the next victim to fall, Sainsbury's have fitted fairly new pumps recently so hopefully they will want to see a return on their investment but who knows.

General Car Chat / LPG at Shell Forecourts (Autogas)
« on: 23 November 2020, 16:33:53 »
All 4 of my Local Shell LPG Station have stopped selling Autogas, thought it might be a local thing untill I searched it, No, Shell have ripped them all out Nationally, so that's that then  >:(

That only really leaves Sainsbury's and Morrisons left now as major sellers, possibly BP if the price is right and you can find one.

If Sainsbury's or Morries decide to follow Shells route, could be a Game Changer in the near future.

Is the end of LPG on the cards so soon. ?  :-\

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: WTD T bar key for roof bars
« on: 11 November 2020, 22:52:05 »
Don't think there all the same Key, if there VX OEM or Thrule they normally have a key number on one or all of the Locks.

Falling that you can get replacement locks, but your need to pick, drill out or get. Master Key from a Locksmith etc.

« on: 03 November 2020, 20:10:16 »
4 X G Cams, Widened Throttle Bodies and a Remap (Re Chip, Coutenaey or SuperChip) all work well together on the 3.0.

Can't vouch for the 3.2 Downpipes as never got around to that one, but a Free,Dr Flowing Exhaust System (doesn't need to be loud) also works well with the above.

If you get stuck on the Cams probably got a set kicking around but please use me as an last resort as just got too much crap going on at the moment and probably won't have a chance to search for them this side of Xmas.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery going flat, clock?
« on: 16 August 2020, 13:26:54 »
Hi All, After coming to start my 1996 2.5d Omega after it had stood for a couple of months, the battery was absolutely stone dead, after fitting a new battery, I fitted the + lead first, then tried touching the -lead onto the - terminal, as expected, I had sparks, after a little investigation, (i had help) when I got my dad to touch the battery lead onto the - terminal, I found the clock illuminating without the key in the ignition, has anybody had this? or is it a common fault? I haven't done anything else, I thought I would ask first, Is the fault the clock or maybe a relay?

Have left the battery with the - lead off
Cheers Dave
If your getting sparks when connecting the Battery without Ing. on (2.5TD) then could be worth checking the Glow Plug Relay hasn't arched or pitted accross causing intermittent shorts.

You can check with a meter on the Voltage side of things or just pull the Relay.

I will try and find an old Post that may give more info for you.

General Car Chat / Re: Temporary car insurance
« on: 14 August 2020, 14:11:02 »
Just for clarification MOT and Vehicle Tax are linked together on the DVLA System but not Insurance, they scrapped that idea years ago when they scrapped the Tax Disk

Àbviously you need Insurance to drive a car, you need an MOT to Tax a Car but that's it, you don't need  Insurance to Tax, Un Tax, Re Tax, New Keeper Tax, SORN or Un SORN etc, can all be done without Insurance  :y

Omega General Help / Re: cant get started

i called greenflag out guy reprogrammed key and immoblizer battery  flat  he said i pumped tyres up yest with 12volt pump first time i did it without running engine at same time so must have drained battery and caused all this madness.running fine now he said if battery goes flat again get it back to halfords for replacement 5 year guarantee only had it fitted in jan
leaving a Battery permanently connected to an Omega whilst the Car is just sat up doing nothing will finish off the Battery in a very short time, it may recharge ok but it will never be the same again.

If your going to leave it parked up for long durations just diss the Neg lead and place some plastic or cupboard in the way of the terminal. If the Power Sounder starts miss behaving then remove the PS completely.

I'll be attaching jump.leads to my omega tomorrow. It's not moved since lockdown began
Wish me luck. I suspect I might need a new battery.
I'm sure it will start, I'll drive it to the house, and put the charger on the battery, whilst I replace spark plugs and air filter, and see it it starts again the next day without jump leads. I do hope so. Otherwise a new battery will be required I reckon.
If it does, I'll be finding a local garage to replace the exhaust.
First off read any fault codes using the Peddle Trick

Don't tell PayPal you have more than 1 personal account, the way it works with them is You're only supposed to have one for personal use and they will probably deactivate them if they find out.

General Discussion Area / Re: Phone woes.
« on: 25 July 2020, 15:31:26 »
Engaged tone is used as a default when there is a switching fault...........consumers are more accepting (don't complain as much) of it as they consider the number to be engaged.

So sounds like a fault

I think I have solved the problem, after causing it in the first instance.

Internet speed was shit slow so I changed the setting from 3G to 4G in the router because I thought this may improve the speed.

Now I have changed the settings back to 3G I can make calls again.
If you have changed the Network SIM in the Mobile Router did you check the APN Settings in the Router afterwards?

Some Networks will work with an incorrect APN name but only allow 2 and 3G access, 4G needs to see the correct APN Settings

Vodafone APN Name is wap.vodafone.co.uk for Mobile SIM (pp.vodafone.co.uk for PAYGO) or for a Data SIM it's just "internet"

EE APN Name is "everywhere"

Don't worry about User Name and Password you don't need them just leave it blank

Omega General Help / Re: Consumption big difference
« on: 25 July 2020, 14:52:46 »
Zirk's EU magic number is 282

So for reference 18 to 21 L per 100km is
282 / 18 = 15.6
282 / 21 = 13.4
Therefore 13.4 to 15.6 mpg

Like wise 13 to 16 L per 100km is
17.6 to 21.6 mpg

282 also works the other way ie
25 mpg is 282 / 25 = 11.2 L per 100km

Personally, I'm not qualified,
I'm not qualified either, but it didn't stop me from wiring all my lights in the home off the street light outside, it's brilliant all the lights come on when the sun goes down, downside is it all goes dark and gets switched off at 1 oclock in the morning.
