We got one via a amazon voucher that we use for filling the kettle up due to the hardness of the water around here.
The filter lasted 5 weeks but the jug now tells us it needs changing.

Has anybody on here used the the non brita filters available ?
These seen to be about half the price of the oem onces.
Any good ?
Any fitment problems ?

Do you have a Wilkinsons store near you? I've used their pattern filters and cannot tell the difference from Britta.

I tend to bulk buy the OE filters whenever they're on offer somewhere - but if I'd spotted the filters in Wilkos, I'd have tried those, for sure.

just fit a drinking tap with in-line filter under the sink ,much cheaper , kits are £20+
fill the kettle from that 
carbon filters remove chlorine and chloranine so water should not be stored (in jugs in the fridge etc ),for any length of time.
plus you use more electricary to boil fridge stored water (it's colder ,unless your fridge is u/s)

Seriously, you can't do a wash without sticking stupid amounts of fabric softener in the wash

I run our's through a 5 micron in-line sediment filter first(gets rid of silt dirt etc, you'd be surprised  )
,then via in-line activated carbon filter (removes chemicals )
good enough for us to drink 
the Koi are much more fussy about their water quality though

I'm sure the chewy bits from your well keep you in fine fettle m'Lud, especially winding up 50m of cable with a 10l bucket on the end of it several times a day. The hole in the ground for the outside toilet with its sheets of torn up newspaper must save you having to keep filling the new fangled indoor flush system and jogging once a week to your local market for a roll of Bronco. There might even be one or two third world people jealous of such luxury living.

Izal was simply old-fashioned grease proof paper given a fancy name. Nothing would stick to it, especially shit, which made it 'unfit for purpose'......
