Lumpy Tickover
« on: 04 June 2018, 19:19:54 »

1999 BMW 530d Touring (E39)

Every now and again the tickover gets a bit lumpy, and I chuck some injector cleaner in the tank and all seems well again for a while.  :y

This morning it was really bad to the point it stalled a couple of times in a jam on the M5.  I bought some Redex and put half the bottle in and filled the tank from about a quarter full.  I've done about 60 miles since and it is ticking over smoothly again.  :)

What's causing this?  I always fill up at Costco (121.9p) so I am wondering if their fuel is crap?  ???  Would it be worth running a tank of Shell V Power or similar through it?  :-\

Thoughts gentlemen? TIA!  :y

I doubt redex did anything at that dilution
weak or failing fuel pump, blocked fuel filter ,fuel pump relay failing
if the injectors are clogged , use something strong like  BG44K for petrol engines

Its an injector.....

Just be careful, they are common rail and the high pressure pumps really don't like strong doses of injector cleaner.
