Title: So the VW has gone....
Post by: tunnie on 09 October 2017, 09:46:22
When I bought the CC my intentions were that I would drive to work every day, plus weekend miles as well. I would then replace the 3.2 with something for the wife, but for past few months the CC was getting hardly any use.

I now car share, plus negotiated working from home 1 day a week, as the wife has been a bit unwell (one of those 9 month things  :-X) - I also plan to always work one day a week from home now, as it’s now my ‘normal week’

So I drive to work just 2 days per week, so thought might as well use the valuable car for something more practical and I keep the 3.2 for work.

Also confession time, I should have bought the CC as an auto. Fine to begin with but the effortless of the auto on my commute is now must have. But I had too many concerns about DSG.

Pictures to follow of what I bought the wife...

Huge lack of Omega Estates about these days, so had to go for this:

Lord Opti's favourite fuel I hear, this runs on diesel.

Auto was a must and only 1.4T came in auto trim and they were newer and out of budget.

So now have a pair of autos, as I will say one thing. I loved the look of the CC, it's boot/light cluster. The seats, the comfort, the headlights were outstanding. But I regretted getting a manual  :(

I missed the effortless of the 3.2 for work, just put it in D after a busy day at work (its got far busier lately) and for 2 days a week I can live with 25mpg.

Congratulations on the approaching arrival!

Must admit, it's looking more and more likely I'll need to go down the Zafira route, although not due to any more little ones - we're too old for that and with Mrs LD being so unwell lately it's a definite no-no.

Quick thought... How does the car sharing arrangement work if you need to get home early? With the imminent arrival it's a serious possibility. When I was sharing at the docks if there was a genuine reason for one of the group to get away they made alternative arrangements or funded a taxi.

It's a official Sky one, we get better permits which allow us to park right in the centre of the campus. As parking can be a big issue with over 10k people working on same site, so means even arriving at gone 9AM we can easily park.

So far we've been ok for leaving, we are both in technology and it's been rare that one of us has had to work late. We find we leave on time more, as we don't want to make each other late.

With wife due any time soon, we are discussing what we will do. Suspect it's a case of I need to go now, and my car share buddy could work from home. Or I may drive every day for a couple of weeks, just in-case I need to leave. I could then give him some train money if he cannot leave at same time.

But generally it works out well, we just take it in turns to drive. When going from 5 days a week down to 2, I actually look forward to the drive more. Especially if it's in the 3.2  8)

Actually become mates out of it as well, beers and such at the weekend.  :)

How did you find the resale/trade in value held up on the CC?

As well as could be expected really, I was surprised at how good it still was, given I'd put about 13k on it and had it a over a year.

To be fair, he does hate it with a passion and keep leaving it where it might get stolen/burnt out ::) :D

Took me bloody ages to find it this time last week.  Wasn't in the either of the usual 2 places. I really had to think where I'd left it ;D
