That's where all the cops have went, sitting on laptops policing twitter (Formerly known as Twitter) and facepuke for "hate" crimes! If you see someone breaking into your car or shed just be sure to tell the police "person" you feel all hurty!

Have you got link to that on ebay, can't finds it, I take it it is new part?

The coolant pipe/Thermostat for V6 engine - the one that welds itself to the thermostat housing with the bracket that snaps off - part number 90411629 (I think) - on Ebay at moment

Will need to strip out plenum and stuff to get in there see what is leaking exactly before condeming anything.

HBV is quite new so not suspecting that either.

I wouldn't completely dismiss the HBV, as my original on my 3.2 lasted around 80K miles but it's replacement lasted less than 5K miles. The replacement was purchased from a main dealer and the box had the hologram on it. The second replacement was still OK when I sold it. Worth checking using the max high temp, max low temp method.  :y
There did appear to be a duff batch a few years ago, a few people, myself included, got caught out :(

I did get 2 new ones a couple of years ago with GM numbers on them, hopefully mine's isn't one of the duff batch.

I just got my coolant pressure test kit in there so put it on and pumped up to 15psi, I can see water dripping down the back of the engine, just forward of the heater matrix pipe sort of down onto the back of the box.

Will need to strip out the plenum and stuff to investigate further.

Thanks for all other suggestions so far. Will have a check round other bits while I'm at it with the test kit.

3.2 elite

Last couple of months I've been loosing coolant, got to top it up after say 50-100 miles back up to level, usally when light low coolant light comes on. After a run the other night had a good look underneath, left it sitting for a while on my drive, couldn't see any drips anywhere, had a good scour around engine bay with torch no sign of anything. Done block test last night and nothing showing, not that I suspected HG but just ruling it out.

Last year replaced rad, oil cooler, hose from block to heater radiator also replaced the top rad fan switch, still got the lower one to do, also replaced the aux water pump under the coolant bottle as it was leaking, that was last Year too. Also checked the floors for any water ingress, bone dry. Only thing I can think is maybe leak from oil cooler plate and it's running down the back of the box or something and I can't see it. Made sure I used the right sealant and that everything was clean and torqued up properly so be surprised if it's the oil cooler plate leaking, although if it was that then perhaps it is dripping out when the car is moving and then pooling somewhere in the V when stationary, then pouring back out when I'm moving so I don't actually see the leak.

Hopefully get in on the ramps at the weekend and get right under it. HBV is quite new so not suspecting that either.

Got a 2.8 Ghia x stored up at the moment needs the bottom end rebuilt, top end already done with new valve seats. Body ok done a bit of welding on it years ago small bits on inner wing, back of inner sills (there is a guy does repair panels for that section if anyone needs them - topbaggers on bay of E), back window drain channels were starting to go so took rear screen out & fixed them. Bad bit is the back panel join to rear wing as water had been getting in boot and rotted that section. Got replacement panels for that bit.

A guy in the town has 2 black Ghia X executives, they used to be owned by the town provost years ago and a local businessman.

Could be a handle issue holding the mech in the opening door position?

Funnily enough I'd read someone tried opening the drivers door from inside and it close afterwards, might be the cable itself for the outer handle.

Just replace latch if that’s the fault. He needs reliability from it

It's looking like that as taking it out and lubing it all up didn't work, think it's about 500 all in.

General Car Chat / VW Passat door latch issue
« on: 17 February 2024, 19:20:20 »
Hi

My brother has a VW Passat, 2015 model, and he's having an issue with the drivers door not closing when it's cold. Apparently it's a common issue and he's had a local mechanic take all the lock out and lubricate it and the guy said there's no wear in the lock either. Tried the usual before this spraying loose oil spray grease etc. in the lock. The only thing that fixes it (temporarily) is pouring hot water over the latch area. So obviously something triggered by lower temps.

He does dialysis every other night at the local hospital so it's a bit of pain when he comes out, opens the door then goes to close it and it bounces open again. It's usually about 1 in the morning by the time he's finished and so just wants to get home and go to his kip, but has to go back in and get a kettle of hot water from the porter to fix it.

Just thought I'd ask on here if anyone had suffered similar issue and if it was that maybe the whole latch needed replaced.

Cheers

G

If it’s intermittent, it’s often loom, usually either side of multi plug near horn

Readings were consistently lower than actual temp hence trying the sensor first.
