General Discussion Area / Beeching was far too liberal
« on: 28 September 2017, 07:55:05 »
Should have closed the lot, then I wouldn't be suckered into using such a crap service, and being £70 lighter for the privilege. I make that 50p per mile, give or take, not taking into account t the taxpayer subsidies

General Discussion Area / Final Reminder for those with old computers
« on: 16 September 2017, 15:10:01 »
As we've been warning about for some time now, older computers might not be able to view OOF effectively soon - in fact you may start to see page glitches from now, but will get worse over the coming days.

Examples of problematic devices include:
Windows XP running IE (mileage may vary using Firefox or Chrome)
Pre ICS Android devices
Pre Blackberry 10
Symbian (ie, Nokia before Microsoft bought them)
pre iOS 4 gayDevices (I believe all iPads are iOS 4 or later, as are all iPhone 4 and later)

Anybody running anything from approx. 2010 (late 2011 for Andoid, the slackers) should be OK. Anybody running XP needs shooting, as does anybody running Android pre KitKat.  Most iPhones and iPod Touch gayDevices can go to iOS4.

Sheer incompetence mixed with the natural stupidness of the British public. I might have to go on the rampage and do a trial cull

General Discussion Area / Grrr, need to reboot network switch
« on: 03 September 2017, 09:26:01 »
Poxy, useless, crappy netgear shite.  >:(

Looks like its misrouting untagged packets across an etherchannel, hence dropping packets. Tagged packets look to be OK. Poxy useless piece of shit.

Trouble is, as the primary storage hangs off this, it means everything has to come down before the switch can be rebooted. Expect a 3 hour outage later  >:(

Have I ever mentioned that all Netgear stuff is shite. Absolute shite.

Omega General Help / Brake problem
« on: 28 August 2017, 12:36:19 »
TBE has a problem with its brakes, where I feel there is too much movement in the pedal, even by Omega standards (granted, I have got more used to the Jag's Ford-esque style brakes over the last few months, as I don't drive TBE much).

Initially I thought the brake pedal was creeping all the way to the floor, but now I have sufficient mobility back, I've had a better look.

Ign off, brake pedal moves and becomes nice an solid, without any pumping etc.  Start car, and as expected, the pedal drops a little lower, BUT continues to creep down until its about an inch from the floor (well, mat).

I have bled the brakes (and changed front pads whilst there, not that that matters for this discussion), the old fluid was quite dark for fluid that was about 3yrs old  :-[.  I have activated the ABS return pump more times than I can remember.  Tech2 activation of each wheel shows no specific wheel is worse than others...  ...in addition, then testing each wheel, there is a fair amount of pedal movement when going from reducing brake pressure to each wheel, to allowing brake pressure to each wheel.

Running out of ideas, and time before the MOT is due.

Is this an MOT failure, ie to much brake pedal movement (but it doesn't sink to the floor)?

Any answers on a postcard please.

General Discussion Area / Its my fault...
« on: 23 August 2017, 19:20:02 »
...I broke my own advice, and bought something from egay.

I purposely picked one that was in the UK, as sick to the back teeth of any dealing with Chinese sellers/companies. Not in anyway racist, as I really do like black bean sauce ::)

Needless to say, as soon as I got the Paypal email, I'd paid someone who's name was spelt in hieroglyphics, so I knew I was oppsed.

Obviously, the tat that turned up was wrong, and all I can get now is no-speaky-inglesh.

*sigh*

Which also reminds me, I need to chase something I ordered from Chinky outfit Banggood (yes, I know it sounds like a porn shop). Its already got stuck in Chinese customs once. Grrr.

General Discussion Area / Faith in human nature restored
« on: 07 August 2017, 19:14:45 »
Was messing around with TBE yesterday, when a stranger got out of the passenger seat of a Range Rover and asked if <name> lived at <address almost opposite me>.

I replied yes, and pointed at his house, commenting "I think he went out earlier though".

The lady replied stating that was no problem, but she'd found his wallet (in another town), and would put it through his letterbox.  I said thankyou on his behalf, and praised the lady for her kind act, saying it wasn't so usual nowadays.  So she went over to <name's> house, then wandered back passed, said bye, jumped back in the car and they were off.

<name> arrived back with his wife and kids about an hour later, so popped over as he got out the car, to let him know, and where the lady had said she'd found it. He checked, all present and correct, and summised he'd put it on the car roof and driven off.

There are some thoroughly decent people on this planet. Enough to make you feel humble.

General Discussion Area / I'm detecting a little frostiness...

...as Mrs TB came up with my (late) cup of tea.

I'm laying in the bath, and she smacks it down, and walks off.  I'm betting that she somehow makes sitting in that queue on the M40 since 3:30 is somehow all my fault ::)

Omega General Help / V6 Exhaust questions
« on: 24 June 2017, 20:54:08 »
Changing centre sections, unsurprisinging 3 or the 4 bolts sheared.  As always, drilling is not really playing the game, these bolts are like bloody diamond to get through.

Worth removing the cats, to do on the bench?  Will it need new gaskets (2 left in UK warehouses, so ordered them, but unlikely to be here before Wed, as the order wont actually get processed until Monday)? Sods law, car is needed this week :(

Query number 2. Should I, when looking down the Irmscher backbox, be able to see all the way through?

To remove CDL from Jag, the window has to come out. Sounds an arse of a job.

Omega General Help / Exhaust join help
« on: 21 June 2017, 16:49:47 »
The Imrscher backbox on TBE is the usual Irmscher twin outlet affair, one outlet each side.  The O/S pipe attaches to the pipe coming out of the backbox silencer, just behind the tank, using a metal ring, and an exhaust clamp that clamps both halves of the exhaust to this ring.

What is the ring called, as TBE's is probably somewhere along the M40 :(

TIA

General Car Chat / Thumbs up to Serek
« on: 12 June 2017, 17:03:38 »
Managed to fit me in at short notice to sort out the A/C on TBE - whilst it was able to cool car if not too warm outside, it was pretty hopeless in the hot temps we had a couple of weeks ago, so was suspecting low gas. As its Mrs TB's car, it has to be done promptly to keep the grumbling to a minimum!

424g came out, both valves replaced - the front one was suspect last time it was regassed, so no surprises that it now showed clear signs of leaking - and the correct 950g in.

So thanks to Serek, for fitting me in at short notice, on what was clearly a busy Saturday morning :y
