How about this for a conversion then using an X30XE & R25-R28 box from an ex-police highway patrol MV6 estate?

Looks almost factory, and far better than that old Ford Essex V6 (boat anchor) that should be in there.

The car is a 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE SE6a. It uses as standard TR6 front suspension, Aston Martin DB6 rear live axle with full watts linkage system. The X30XE is sat low in the chassis and the whole engine is behind the centre of the front wheels.

CAT's  who needs em?  This is 1979 basic emissions test only, which it flew through.

On the track it seriously shifts, the Scimitar with this engine weighs just under 1200kgs

With the standard Scimitar rear diff and wheels combined with the R25-R28 box this is what you get:

-------1----2----3-----4----5------R
-------------Gear Ratio-------------
RPM---3.95-2.19-1.39---1----0.85--3.53
6000---35---63---99---138----162---39
5000---29---53---83---115----135---33
4000---23---42---66----92----108---26
3000---17---32---50----69-----81---20
2000---12---21---33----46-----54---13
1000----6---11---17----23-----27----7

Remember peak torque is 3400rpm

I was managing 130mph in 4th along the straights at Mallory park!!!

The X30XE engine and box is a great engine for kit cars and mad conversions, it's hard to get that sort of power so cheaply and it's also very compact. The only other route is the BMW V8!

Cheers
