It measures output shaft speed. It gets input shaft speed from RPM signal. It compares these 2 figures, and knows what gear it thinks it is in, and if things don't correlate, throws a P0730 Incorrect Ratio and dumps the box in limp.

Must be a day for MOT passes - a pass on the Petrol Blue 3.2 Elite with clean bill of health and no advisories. In fact it created a lot of admiration from the other mechanics during its test..Congratulations on the MOT pass Great to get an advisory free pass on an Omega now with youngest ones being 20 years old Mine seems to get the most attention when filling it with fuel, loads of 'I used to have one of these, best car I ever had' and 'You don't see one of those very often' remarks. However, no one offers to pay for the fuel! |

Finished a head gasket repair on a friends 1.4 Turbo Zaf C. I guess that is the smaller vent hose from the top of coolant elbow at the gearbox end of the engine to the header tank? The hose end goes brittle and fractures, the part with the metal clip is actually (and rather crazy!) an adaptor with an O ring on it (easy to swap the O-ring), the main hose has a plastic clip integrated into the end |

Did oil and filter on the V70. The D4 5 Cylinder engine isn't the greatest for getting the oil level correct on. Takes more than what half the online sources say, dipstick (a retrofit) shows just above half, electronic gauge says full. This is one of those engines that likes to fill the sump with diesel if it doesn't complete a regen, then the car starts to complain.
Also managed to give the Silver Omega a good wash, lots of green forming on the window seals etc. Didn't come up too bad after a bit of work though. My arms ache now! |

Some stations have ATLs (automated test lanes) where the tester can do an MOT on his own
(vibrate plates/shakers to rock suspension, mirrors to check rear lights etc ) non ATLs require a second person / helper Many yest stations have "test viewing areas" so you can watch I doubt many garages or test stations would allow general public in the work or test areas these days it's an insurance liability due to "people" being STUPID ,getting hurt, then claiming compensation much like everywhere ,"where there's blame ,make a claim" Alternatively ... use common sense ,don't get injured in the first place |
